Sweet C hit this beauty early on. Thank goodness since it was our best hit of the trip. But, what a trip!
Played long, hard and really late Sunday night so we opted to stay over Monday to sleep. One of us slept until 1:00 pm, one of us still got up early and only got 3 hours of sleep. Monday night we put in another 8 hour session and headed to bed around midnight.
As a retired school principal, I still have an alertness to security issues/strange situations and as I went to bed I thought I heard a fire alarm. Maybe it was just the extra set of ears educators develop. But, pretty good for an old fart who probably needs hearing aides.
Of course Sweet C is already dead asleep. Minutes passed, I kept thinking I am hearing something. Got redressed and went into the hall to check. Heard the alarm but not on our floor. So I called the front desk. I was told a possible false alarm was sounding on the 7th floor-security was checking. Undressed and back to bed. Ten minutes later security comes down the hall knocking on each door shouting to get dressed and evacuate the building via the stairwells. Woke up Sweet C and we dressed, grabbed her book, my ipad, and jackets and headed for the stairs. OK, so we love the top floor of the hotel, the rooms are quieter since less people stay on the floor, housekeeping is usually the best at staying quiet since the rooms are usually host comped, and the views are better. I kept reminding myself all of this as we walked down all 10 floors-my knees aching the whole way. We made our way to the garage through the fire crews and other guests and sat in our vehicle watching the action. Around 1:45 we finally were given the all clear.
Thank you Otis Tufts and Elisha Otis for inventing and perfecting the elevator-my knees appreciate it and so does who does Sweet C who....gets tired of me complaining about stairs.

Triggered my memory. Hotel opening night at the Wheeling Island Casino in WV. We had been on a trip and decided to stop at this Casino. Found out it was their opening night for the hotel , which was (I guess) booked. We managed a room for $100 that night. Next moring when we went to leave, Lo And Behold, the elevator didn't work. Down the stairs with luggage( Bell was hiding) through the back of the kitchen to the lobby. Side note: after seeing back of kitchen decided I wouldn't eat there again. No reduction of the room rate or even a so sorry. Now at this point my bride remembers she left her jacket in the closet. My choice was either to climb 7 flights of stairs or go into a full fledged Grizzly Bear attack on the Bell to go get it. It worked. Yes, I am a dues playing member of the I hate stairs club.
Nice hit LL.

Great story faygo. Is it worse going up or down? The concussion on the knees going down is worse for me. No pun intended.....

When it comes to stairs, I am Bi-directional.

It wasn't where i would be staying, but i remember floating down for my landing in Vegas and seeing the Monte Carlo on fire. I wondered how those other fliers whom had rooms booked there were feeling at that point.

LL and Faygo. Brings back a bad memory for me, too. A few years ago we were staying at Harrahs in Tunica. Alarm went off so we headed for the exit. We ended up on a 1st floor roof with a latter to get to the ground!!! They told us we were ok where we were as the fire was a small kitchen fire. THANK GOD! As we headed back to the room, I told my wife "I'm going to check the exit at the other end of the hall, it's got to be better!". So I took the exit and walked down to the 1st floor.....LOCKED! Must be the basement. Walked up a level, LOCKED! Got out my cell, no signal! Put the phone against a metal pipe, still no signal! Started yelling an knocking on the door, no answers. Finally I started walking up the stairs and checking the doors, yelling and pounding at each level. I finally got to the top level and got a 1 bar signal. Called my wife, no answer! Called the hotel, got someone!!! Very bad connection, though. I explained where I was and they said they'd send someone. I waited. I waited. Finally I tried calling again, no signal! Finally, after 2 hours i heard someone calling my name! The lower level rooms extended further and had another exit, where they went to look, from the 1st floor. I complained and told them how dangerous that was, but all they did was make excuses. Next morning I went to the manager. Apparently they locked the doors so the alarm wouldn't go off all the time! He said he'd make changes and comped us a buffet. PS. I got back to the room, wife was sleeping Dave
