1,000 Coin Limit?

Post by FloridaPhil »

As a recreational player, my VP sessions are usually 2-3 hours in duration. It seems like I can usually tell in the first 30 minutes or so if I'm going to have a bad or good session.  I have hit a Royal or a 4AK right at the end of play, but that's very rare.  Most times, if a 4-of-kind pops up right away, things go well.  If not, well you know...   I'm starting to think that I should limit my sessions to 1,000 coins.  If things go well, I’ll sock away some go-home money and play on.  If not, I should go home and mow the lawn or something.  Anyone else feel this way?

Phil,
I too, can often tell, whether my timing on a machine is really going well or not. This leads me to try to change my timing by changing games, switching which buttons I hit or the screen, alternating between "turbo" and speeds. Eventually, I may move to another machine or change denominations. I also may get up and walk around. I do believe factors such as how tired we are, (which affects our alertness) and our attitude (positive vs negative) can impact our play. it doesn't affect the RNG but our play. Several years ago when I had an incredible streak, I realized I could get "in the zone" or "rhythm" mentally but lately I can't get that same conscious feeling.

As usual you bring up great topics.

Switching games works for me occationally.  Switching machines almost never does.  What I really hate is when I switch to Deuces and a quad pops up.  My wife says it's a good thing because 4 deuces is a quad.  I think she's right about that.

Most video poker machines I play have a three speed setting.  I normally play at the medium speed.  I can see how changing the display speed would change the timing of your response.   I'll have to try that...

I start to get frustrated after I lose 500 coins or so, and I try to restrict my losses in a session to about 800 coins. I have rarely lost more than $200 at one session at quarters. I generally keep my sessions short though because I often go to the casino with my g/f...

I am usually playing the slow speed unless I have a decent reason not to. I don't need to jack up my coin-in on some crappy 6/5 Bonus w/STP machine or the like.

You guys must be better players than me. I have NO IDEA what the next half hour of play will bring.I've had sessions where I've lost, lost, lost and it never turned around. I've had sessions where I lost at the beginning and won at the end. I've had sessions where I've won, won, won and ended up a loser. I've had other experiences as well. I NEVER KNOW what's coming next. And I believe that those of you who think you do know are fooling yourself.Which is why my casino and game choices are based on pay schedule, slot clubs, promotions, and comps. Even when I was a recreational player I never saw a reason to gamble where the casino had the advantage. Bob

Royal or a 4AK right at the end of play, but that's very rare.Royals and AWAK are rare no matter when you hit them in that particular session on that particular day.I usually have a goal that is independent of win/loss for that particular session.  It's usually a coin-in goal.  I try to have enough cash on me to have a reasonable chance at achieving that goal if the PRNG fairy is off turning tricks somewhere instead of looking out for me.
