How many hands do you play until you quit?
Hi all,Newbie to video poker, and I must say I enjoy it so much! Basic question: how many hands do you guys initially playing on a machine before calling it quits? How many hands after striking a good hand do you play until thanking the machine and pressing the "cash out" button? I'm wondering if there are any rules of thumb on this... Thanks!

welcome to the forum. There really is no rule of thumb for the question you asked, it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish and what you desire in terms of comps and points, profit and what you are willing to play with and lose in terms of your bankroll. A basic rule of thumb is set a bankroll limit and keep to it, so if you hit a big hand (say four of a kind) and you had been running bad up to that point, and it gets you back to even, maybe you should count your blessings and quit and come back again to fight another day. OR, before you start your session, a good rule is to predetermine HOW LOW you are willing to go before you quit, and HOW HIGH you wish to get in terms of profit before you consider quitting the session. Set these limits before and stick to them and you will enjoy your sessions consistently. Another rule to consider is "dont play for comps", or allow comp levels or casino reward systems to dictate how and when (or WHETHER) you play video poker. Where do you normally play?

I've tried a few different approaches. My favorite is to double my bankroll or go broke trying. it doesn't matter how many hands with this approach. Just cash out when you reach your goal for the day. If it happens too fast, consider making another trip to the casino... without leaving.

Recreational players look for rules of thumb so they don't lose too much in any one session. The stopping rules they use (quit after so many quads or perhaps after you've won or lost a certain amount) do nothing to the basic return of the game. If you're playing a negative game, you will lose over time. Period. There's nothing in stopping rules that changes this.Stronger players insist on only playing when they have the advantage --- including the return on the game (factored by your skill level), the slot clubs, and relevant comps. If you're playing such a game, your bankroll will increase over time --- with many ups and downs --- so assuming your bankroll can handle the swings, play as long as you like (so long as the good promotions are in affect.) Black Hawk has TBP+ (99.8%), NSU (99.7%) and JoB (99.5%) games --- among others --- check out the www.vpfree2.com database for where. Strong players believe there is no intelligent reason to play lesser games than these. If you must play a lesser game, you should play only one hand on the machine before you quit.Bob
