Planning Vegas Trip

Post by dbldbl scotty »

Vegas trip coming up in a month or so - Any recommendations on where to stay / play ?

The last time I did well at The Orleans - thinking of returning since the rooms are cheap and the vp there is plentiful (tons of machines of all denominations).

I also have full comp at any Harrah's property so that comes in to play as well but i'm not sure how they measure up;   Rio / Caesars / Harrahs / Flamingo / Paris / Planet Hollywood / Ballys / Quad.

suggestions?

thanks!

Any of the "Coast casinos" (casinos owned by Boyd gaming, which includes The Orleans) will treat you well in terms of video poker for sure.

So it will really depend on what you want to do in terms of your Vegas trip. If you want to hit video poker hard, I would consider a Boyd property because they have such better games. VPFree2 says that Orleans has plentiful 9/6 DDB.

I personally would consider picking Gold Coast because it's the best of both worlds, good VP and a quick shuttle to the Strip. Also they have 9/6 JoB w/STP (99.82%) my favorite game...so I'm biased...lol I'm not sure if they have 9/6 DDB or not, VPFree2 only lists 9/7 DB or better. I wouldn't be surprised if Gold Coast also had 9/6 DDB and VPFree2 are just being asses about not listing 9/6 DDB since it is technically below 99%. If not, the Palms across the street has 10/6 DDB, so you could obviously play there. They also have a new member $1000 loss rebate. But to take full advantage, you would need to return to Vegas two more times in the next year. :D

And of course, the other option is somewhere in the CET empire, which will give you a nice strip location (except Rio, stay at Gold Coast before Rio). But they have garbage DDB poker period. I think every quarter machine only pays 8/5. Some dollars may pay 9/5 but I dunno where they are exactly. Sadly the best paying machine (non-progressive) for quarters or less is at the Quad (7/5 Bonus w/STP on All-Star machines), but I probably wouldn't stay at the Quad unless youre solo, and the free nights cover your entire trip length, while no other CET properties do the same. Oh and bring earplugs there for possible Linq construction noise. All this being said, my g/f and I are still staying at the Quad this weekend. The total cost is only $96.75 for the weekend, and I have a measly 300 Tier this year, so that's a good price for me...lol

If I was in your spot and wanted to be at a CET property, I would likely stay in one of the hotels I never have stayed in (aka the "better ones"). In rough niceness order that includes Ceasars, Planet Hollywood, Paris, and Harrah's. If you like a party pool, Flamingo could also be put into the argument but the hotel is nothing to talk about. But it is the place where I did hit my only Vegas royal (dealt on multiline pennies for $240), so it does have a soft spot in my heart. If I stumble across any 9/5 DDB (9/6 definitely doesnt exist) at any of these properties for quarters or dollars, I'll make a note.
