Hey R aNe R, that's pretty interesting. The takeaway for me (even though I already knew) is that there are other tactics you can use in these games besides relying on math only. All the math, with few exceptions, says that the house is going to win over the long haul, so you need some technique/ tactic to try to push the odds in your favor. Comps help but comps alone aren't really enough. Thanks.

Hey Jeff...Well what got my attention is that it is impossible to loose, Lets say you loose on red you keep doubling the bet till it hits then you go to black and you do the same thing there is no way you can loose all you need is to have is a large enough back roll to keep double up till your color hits...Lets say you are betting two dollars you play red you loose you bet four dollars you loose you bet eight dollars you win you get paid 8 dollars and you keep the eight dollors that was your bet...So after deducting the first six dollors you lost you still came out two dollors ahead... Since you won you go back and start with two dollars again and do it all over again...If I'm doing the math right there is no way you call loose...

Sure will Jeff...I am a die hard video poker player I only play DDB dollar...but between sessions I go play a hundred on some other game I usually play three card poker...Some times I do good and some times not so good but only do it mainly to rest my eyes a bit... I will check it out between one of the sessions just to see how it does with real money...LOL...The wife and I play DDB video poker about 10 to 12 hours a day when we go to vegas...I leave in Texas and there ain't no casinos here...Maybe now that Rick Perry is on his way out will get some...Will see...

This isn't new -- it's called the Martingale System.

R aNe R, DDB is a good game too. I started playing Bonus Poker cause I couldn't find the JoB machines at the Palms, and I was too proud to ask for help.

I'm working on this strategy that I just quit playing when I'm up, and it's worked out well so far. If I'm up after 10 minutes I'll just cash in my ticket and go home. I'm lucky cause I live 10 minutes away from the Palms and Gold Coast, so I can use this strategy long term. If you're just visiting Vegas it's impractical to gamble for just 10 minutes.

I'm heading out to the Palms again this morning. I'll play 9/6 JoB.

I'm surprised that Texas of all places hasn't legalized gambling. Other than that it's a great state. I considered moving to Texas but I kept driving and ended up in Las Vegas.

Rick Perry was a real disappointment in the Republican primaries.

Anyway, nice talking to you.

What you have to explain is how, mathematically, "quitting when ahead" increases the return on a game if you're not going to stop playing for life. Most players I know don't set a win/loss stop point.  It's usually something like a certain number of points, drawing tickets, time, ability to play accurately, etc.  They understand that today's result really doesn't matter because it's completely out of their control.  All they control is the game chosen and the cards held.  The deals and draws are random.

QD, players also control when they stop playing, and that's all I've been saying, but an alcoholic can't control how many drinks he has, nor can he stop drinking even when he really should or wants to.

I can certainly understand a player not being able to stop playing after only 20 minutes, for example, especially if VP is more than just a means to make some money. Even though it doesn't apply to me I suspect that most players are in a casino playing games because they're gamblers. I moved to Las Vegas to go to truck driving school not to gamble. I went to a casino only because I've been sidelined at my school, which, BTW, I resume next week.

I've never been a gambler, and at this point in my life I never will be. VP just seemed like an incredibly easy way to pick up a few extra bucks especially if you're able to lower your expectations about how much you can safely win and being able to walk away when you're ahead. Some people travel hundreds and thousands of miles to play. Do you think someone like that would be able to quit playing after 20 or 30 minutes?

A player might be up 200 bucks, but that's not going to change his life so he keeps playing, and he loses the 200 plus more. I bet it happens all the time. How many times have you been ahead but you kept playing? Do you recall sessions when you haven't been ahead at some point in a game like JoB? What if you had quit while ahead in all those games? The reality is that players can't stop playing because they love to gamble like an alcoholic loves to drink, and gambling trumps everything else. I'm happy to stop playing, and I'm happy when I can leave the casino. It's not my vacation or really even my idea of fun.

This is just me and I don't assume it applies to anyone else.
