Do you talk to other players?

Discuss proper hold strategies and "advantage play" and ask questions about how to improve your play.

Video poker is an emotional roller coaster. Before I wised up, I was always jumping between being sad, depressed, mad, happy, overjoyed and back to sad again.  Losing hit me very hard and I beat myself up badly for it.  That might explain that poor guy's attitude.  These days, I play for peanuts and I don't care anymore.
I don't talk to men while playing, they mostly want to be left alone or just want to talk about some great jackpot they won 5 years ago.   Women usually are much more cavalier about their play and willing to talk more.   I keep my discussions strictly to gambling issues, that way I don't get drawn into something I don't wish to deal with.

I will chat if someone says something, but it always used to bother me when I would play a somewhat complicated game (ex. sneek peek) and people would not have a clue how to play it. I would try to explain it in the simplest terms, but some just could not get it. That used to be my most favorite game. Then I found Big Split at the Palms. I really had difficulty with it at first, but a lovely gentleman who was sitting next to me, carefully helped me hand after hand until it finally sunk in. I wish I could find it at more casinos.

It's more often lumped into "Multi Strike Ultra Deluxe" units now. They exist in 4 of 6 of my metro area casinos. Argosy Alton, Hollywood St. Louis, Lumiere Place, and River City. At River City, in particular, I see quite a few people playing "Big Split Poker". Maybe I should bother to check the paytable...lol Or play that in Vegas when trying to drink for cheap because I definitely am not quick at playing that game!

5 Strip Casinos also have these units along with Palms and Planet Hollywood still having the original "Big Split Poker" units. There are 43 Casinos have have the "Multi Strike Ultra Deluxe" units nationwide.

Also you can play "Big Split Poker" on the website too through the "Multi Strike Poker Deluxe" game.

I don't mind talking to someone unless I am really concentrating and they keep breaking it.  You know - say a sentence or two and then stop.  A minute or two later they start again.  Let's talk for five minutes straight and then get back to our game!If I am playing regular penny slots, I am usually so bored that anything anyone says is bound to be interesting.

Vman, I also play in St. Louis most of the time, and I do know Hollywood has two. The paytables are actually sucky, but the game is a real challenge, as you don't keep the hands you usually would. I guess it is equivalent to Pai Gow. I love playing different games and have won quite a bit on Big Split, but its just really fun. I have people who stand behind me wondering what in the world I am doing and that is part of the charm. Just remember to keep the bigger paying hand on the bottom.

It was a VP player next to me who told me about this site, and the rest is history. I pass this tip along when it seems appropriate.

Marie,
Like you I try to pass on the websites to help people learn about VP. Helping someone usually leads to positive results.

The last conversation I initiated was "Would you please move over your cigar"?   ...I didn't end well...   lol

I'm sure there is a special place in hell for cigar smokers.     I think they get a kick out of stinking up the place or they do it so that no one will sit near them.  Hanging a dead horse around your neck would accomplish the same thing...
