Re: He"s Mad he Won on Video Poker
You could very well be right Minn. Fatz...I don't think I left any doubt as to how I feel about the ever present greedy hand of government in our lives. However, the nonsense of having to report the all to infrequent jackpot to the government is crowded out by the adrenalin rush I get when the attendant counts out hundred dollar bills. Still I'm a little surprised at how few responses this thread is getting given the fact the dread we all feel when we have to report winnings that aren't really winnings...It was just one transaction in a series of transactions that actually resulted in a loss. I'm sure professional gamblers keep detailed records because what they win might be their primary source of income...but me and the wife just want to get away and forget our troubles for a few hours without some nameless faceless revenue agent looking over our shoulders...
The casinos pay cadres of tax lawyers hundreds of millions of dollars to assist them in defeating the best efforts cadres of tax agents/bureaucrats in their efforts to extract as much as they can. It's a mind numbingly expensive game and colossal waste of time.... paid for by little folks ....

I read you, Uptight, and am on your side! I am sure many others here agree with your good post but are at a loss of how to instigate change and make our vote count! TY for expressing sentiments of countless gaming addicts!

Most of us use our meager casino winnings to buy televisions and refrigerators, food and groceries, gas for our cars and in the extremes, cars themselves. All taxed. Taxed, taxed, taxed. Maybe the Beatles should write a song about taxes...

Me, I keep track of the losses just in case the big one hits. And most casinos will give you win/loss records, if you use their players clubs and ask nicely.

I think if you build a building, house, or any kind of structure you try to build to be strong and safe,(to work in or live in, ect.ect.) but if you build it out a deck of cards you all know that it is very unstable and slightest wind could blow it down. Meaning if you grow up and expect to get paid $50000 or $75000 a year,(harder to pay bills) so if your make $250,000 to $500,000 year,(little easer to live are lives) if you make $$500,001 to $1,000,000 you can get by pretty well. Now can go on and on with higher incomes. Point that most people miss in this world, middle class doesn't want take care of every body(have already taken to much out of them) so Gov. has taxed little more to the medium to the rich people. What they don't get is this only going temporary fix the money problems, What problem = what did it cost to build bridge in the 1970s, cost to tar roads in 1970s, cost to buy grocery's in 1970s ect.ect.ect. The first two the cost has gone from millions/tens of millions to now in the hundred of millions to do exact same thing,(this in less than 50years) if you build a system like we have its just like the deck of card house, some day the hole system going to fall apart. When I started this post was more on somebody winning and being happy that you won on VP, because we all know (don't know exact percentages) you only win what 20% to 30% of the time you walk out of the casino, playing video poker. He spent more time getting mad over winning(Yes taxes)(lol) Sam

I get my TVs, gas cards, food while at the casino and, recently, new washer and dryer from the casino. Didn't pay any taxes on them.

I am guessing it would have been considerably cheaper to buy those items with cash at the store.

Mucho Denero..
But hey, as long as I am playing anyway, I may as well have something to show for it. It is very difficult to actually win MONEY in the casinos, so the comps help offset the edge that all casino's have.
