Flush or Pair?
What's your strategy when your first deal is 4 cards same-suit but also includes a pair?do you pick the pair? or go for a flush?thanks!rich

Which game and what are the pay tables Rdolmat? A generic answer would be to go for the flush if the pair you have is 2 thru 10. Hold the pair if it is Jacks or Better. There could be exceptions of course. For instance, if you are playing Deuces Wild, you would hold the pair of Deuces if you fortunate enough to have that decision.

A good example of exceptions is in OEJs. If the 4 flush is in diamonds or clubs you hold the four; if the 4 flush is in spades or hearts you hold the pair.

flush--look at the increase in payoff compared to a pair.

I like MikeA's answer unless you're playing a game like Bonus Poker Deluxe. I am addicted to quads in that game and will do whatever it takes to get them!

Deuces is one of games where you often keep a pair over 4 to a flush. If the flush plays 2-1 then the pair is always a better hold. However, if it pays 3-1 like NSUD and most deuces deluxe then the flush play is best.
