Dueces Wild Question
Last night while playing deuces wild a drew 4 to a royal with a deuce. Far and away my most interesting hand of the night. I was playing a triple play quarter machine. I normally play relatively fast but on this particular hand I took my time and tried to determine whether to keep the 3 royal with deuces or go for the royal flush. In the end I took the 375 quarters.
Those of you that play DW, did I make the right decision? I received just under $100 but I gave up the opportunity to win $1000 on each of the three games. Given that there is a 1 in 47 chance on each of the three games to get the final card to complete the royal flush, what was the correct play?

Yes, you made the right play longterm. The royal needs to be 5400 credits ($1350 at quarters) before tossing the 2 always becomes correct vs a 125 credit wild royal. Believe it or not, this type of hand was the first one I ever took a pic of with my phone. I also paused for a few minutes over it. I knew the correct play, but stared at it out of considering being greedy. I end up holding it after about 2 minutes. I lost that session anyway, meh.

I am glad to hear I made the right decision. The only regret is that I will never know what might have been had I went for the royal flush.

Since I mainly play deuces I've faced this hand many times. Sweet C and I always laugh when I ask what I should do. We both know to hold the Deuce Royal and cry over her once going for the 4 to Royal instead on 50 hands and not hitting any.

You made the right play as posted above, but a very hard choice neverthless. I play a lot of Deuces too and know to toss a dealt straight flush with 3 deuces, but have a hard time keeping 5 of a kind with 3 deuces even though that is the correct play too. 4 to a Natural Royal sometimes doesn't come up at all even in an 8 hour session. I have gone as many as 3 long sessions straight without having a one card draw chance at one.

5 of a kind with 3 deuces in deuces wild is not such an easy choice as in many deuces game it depends on which of a kind. There is no question that in regular deuces games that if you have 5 tens through 5 Aces that you hold all 5 because by tossing the two non deuce cards you lose chances to get a wild royal. With 3's through 9's the particular game and what they pay on the other combinations then becomes relevant. But in reality th e difference is minor, just hold the 5 of a kind, however in games where you get 2500 for 4 deuces, i.e, loose deuces it is correct to even dump a wild royal when you have 3 deuces. On games that pay 4000 (double) for 4 deuces depends on the other pays again. Use the strategy charts or the program here or one of the better programs to determine the right play in each instance but if you hold th e5 of a kind as a rule you will be close. In tournaments where getting top hands is paramount to place go for it.

I've been dealt this hand with a progressive high enough to make the 4RF hold correct. Never did hit a single royal.

Europa:That's not correct about the wild royal. If you have 2-2-2-K-K (or any pair of 10-A as you mentioned) , you still have 2 Kings in the deck so you COULD still get a wild royal by holding just the 2's. For example, if you had K of spades and K of hearts, you could draw K and A of clubs for a wild royal.

Europa did not say you would lose ALL chances for a wild royal. But, with two potential wild royal cards in the discard pile, the chances are, indeed, reduced. This discussion, incidentally, relates only to full pay deuces (the 100.76%) version, where quads, other than deuces, pay 5 for 1. In the deuces wild versions available to most players (i.e. not in Las Vegas), and paying only 4 for 1 for quads, and 1000 for four deuces, keeping all dealt five of a kinds is the best play,

Ah, I read "lose chances" as "all chances", not just "some chances". I can see now how it could be taken either way.
