"Well, I believe in the soul, the c&(^, the p@(&), the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days."

- Crash, Bull DurhamPerhaps your best post ever, even if it is a blatant "hijacking"      But since you quote from one of the top three baseball movies ever, I will go along with the 'jacking'.    still wanna know what you feel is luck versus skill versus whatever else though......like for instance, sitting down at a plain old 9/6 JOB 25 cent  game that is a progressive at $1256.79, but during your session you fail to hit the ROYAL, BUT you do catch Quad Aces, Quad Deuces and Quad fours, which sadly only pay 125 credits on JOB.   Then you sit down on a 9/6 DDB and fail to get ANY quads.......thats an example of Luck (or lack thereof, wouldnt you agree?)

we play within our bankroll, and we do not drink or smoke pot or drop acid or snort coke before or during VP sessions.

Interestingly enough, I caught one of my largest VP jackpots, $72k, on a dealt RF in $1 3-way DoublePay while stumbling toward the elevators at The Beau after perhaps one too many Makers Marks from the beautiful cocktail waitresses there. My playing session was over for that night, but I decided to finish my drink before going upstairs, and threw in a hundred.

Goes to show ya.... [/QUOTE]Ok Billyjoe, that does it!!!      I demand you admit to being one completely LUCKY SOB!!!    I mean jeeeez, three sheets to the wind, stumbling around, and you are DEALT a royal for more winnings on one hand than 90% of us make in an entire year!!!!!!!Try smoking crack next time and "throw" a hundred in that annoying "wheel...... of...... fortune!!" slot game.....you'll probably hit the friggin Million dollar progressive.    Or if Crack isnt your bag, try shooting smack and "throw" $300 (in fifties) in the Megabucks slot.....I am certain that, as you are O.D.-ing, you will hit the 15 million dollar prize....the paramedics will arrive just in time to shoot you full of narcan, you'll be thankful and with your 15 million dollar prize, you will happily exclaim to the entire casino "Hey everybody!  Crack n' Hookers on Me!!!"      Just say YES to controlled substances Billyjoe, just say YESSSSSSSS!!!!!   I'm just being a wise apple, I know your sense of humor gets it and is almost as warped as mine.......Back when I used to drink, I have many tales of what happens when a crippled boozer (that would be me) starts wheeling while intoxicated (WWI) around a crowded casino, and out onto the Vegas Strip.....no mailbox, vending machine, trashcan or cocktail waitress was safe around me.

Sure, in some sense, and to some degree we can make it fit, make it apply to the act of playing video poker so that a person can speak of another person by saying "Bib Dancer is a very SKILLFUL Video Poker player."But what I am getting at is, there is a LIMIT, a type of MAXIMUM level that Skill reaches in terms of Video Poker, such that a person no longer is able to improve their results or performance  ..... they max out because the level and amount of "skill" the applies to Video Poker is finite.....you reach a certain point where you no longer get better, where you are as good as you can possibly become, your results are as good as they can possibly be with respect to your "skill level".     The only way to improve at this point is to become, and remain, MASSIVELY lucky......which we know is impossible in the long term because LUCK always subsides after it experiences a "rise"!!!!Since the whole concept surrounding Video Poker "skill" is not rocket science, it can be grasped by the simplest minds......the most important component, again, is discipline/conscientiousness, sticking to and applying what a person learns and teaches oneself as to the correct way to play.

I didn't "hijack" the quote if I attributed it to the author. I don't play JOB for the simple fact that I don't like to get a minimal payout for hitting quads but I do know that quads appear with more frequency on JOB than they do DDB or TDB. This could be one of the reasons why video poker grinders play JOB. As for your example of sitting down at a DDB game and not getting any quads cannot simply be attributed to luck, good or bad.

Yes - I admit it. I can often be one lucky SOB..

Believe it or not, while playing in a casino is the only time that I drink, and only if I am staying in their hotel that evening.

heh hee   yeah right         "....if you are staying in their hotel that evening....and the next evening.....and the next....."     You end up playing "Binge Bowlers Booze Bottle Bang", whereby you take the empties from your Makers Mark Casualties, set the bottles up in the hotel hallway like a ten pin configuration and then ask the conceierge for abasketball from the Hotel Gym (remember, you're drunk)     I used to play this back in my Prime, when I had a full head of hair, peace of mind, and a Liver......*burp*    C'mon Billyjoe, admit it! you only drink on days that end in "Y" ...... thats what we all love about you, the amiable friendly generous village booze hound-of-the-bskervilles who never says a discouraging word to passersby!

No, Burglar, that would never happen, for one good reason. That would imply that I would actually BUY a drink/bottle for myself, which I would never do. I am too cheap.

My only cocktails are brought, in a glass, by the lovely cocktail waitresses, and only 'cost' me a tip. I let the casino worry about the rest.
