A 1968 or 69 Simca, by Renault, I think. Got about a zillion miles per gallon and was a hatchback that the rear seat folded down to put the kids. Couldn't get out of its own way and was an awful olive green with loud tan interior. Took forever to get parts, reminds me of the Kia Soul today. For some unknown reason I liked it. When I met my second husband he had a dark red one in his garage ( of course it didn't run, was waiting for parts, lol) but knew I had met my soulmate. Was the only foreign car I've ever owned. We were a Ford family then and now as he worked for Ford for 30 yrs making Thunderbirds and Cougars.

Maybe he built my 78 T Bird. Forgot to mention that one in the oddball arena. It was metallic red with white landau vinyl roof. 351. Sharp car. Loved it. It was odd because it had roll up windows and a bench seat. Quite unusual for a bird. And it never rusted out. Even up here in the salt filled roads. Loved to take that car down to AC in the mid 1980s and the Skyline Drive in the mountains of Virginia.

olds442jetaway: "Only owned it one day."
WHY? (one can only hope it was not painfully totaled!)Son owned a car for one day, also. He bought it from a guy who worked where he and my husband were working. They both checked it out and it seemed like a good buy. Son tends to be on the quiet side but got VERBAL with the seller, at work, when he realized the car did not go into reverse! "SH SH SH" said the seller, "OKAY, keep it down and I will give you your money back!" Did he really think no one would ever notice it would not go into reverse! (memo to self, put REVERSE near the top of that want list when buying a used car!)

1. RE: buying a problem used car: In MI, small claims court goes to $5K. You can consult a lawyer but have to handle the small claims case yourself. Betcha any district court judge in the country would rule against the seller of that above car and not claim "caveat emptor" (buyer beware) when buying on the secondary market. Just have documentation and go for the amount of the damages and not headaches caused by stress. Always try first to settle out of court with the defendant. 2. MI has a lemon law if you buy or lease a new vehicle. One can get free legal advice and replace a lemon or get a refund if you can prove an unrepairable defect exists. This is a simplified version and perhaps your state has similar lemon law. Much more info on the net on this and small claims court and good to know for future reference.(apologies olds for off thread)

Illinois didn't enact a lemon law until about 1990 and I remember quite well one particularly unhappy motorist who voiced their opinion regarding the pick up truck they bought. When I say voiced their opinion I mean that they had painted onto the truck that it was a lemon and NOT to buy that particular model truck. They then went on to say something regarding the truck being back to the dealership like 50 times for various bugs and other mechanical issues that couldn't be solved. The truck had bright yellow lemons painted all over it, it was pretty funny to see it driving down the street. I'm guessing the owner was stuck with it until they paid it off or until it "got stolen." Not that that type of thing happens in Chicago...

[Galeygoo"What did I miss?  When???"](confidential to Galey-prob was a rhetorical question, anyway but here goes) Guilty here: I claim responsibility for this off topic diversion. IF you miss a few posts on forum, you can get permanently lost. Recap: olds mentioned owning one car for one day and so did my son. Son's new used car would not go into reverse and he solved that problem. Seller took his lemon back. It's all there. Seemed like an ideal opportunity to mention hope for peeps being skewered by not nice sellers: ergo timely publicity for small claims court and lemon laws. Hopefully YOU never need this useful info! Odds are that some of us will need this help some day.(I have learned so much profitable info from this site and met such interesting peeps, I thank you all! I feel it necessary to give back when the opportunity arises. Telling peeps where to go is my forte) FUNNY truck story, Ted. Good description and I can envision that truck!
