i'm getting quite annoyed with those who play v.p. near me that slap at the buttons on the game. It tends to break my concentration at times. Do these players really think that by slapping, they can get either a good hand or better draw?  I've had to get up and move on occasion because of this annoying practice!!!!----charles arlington-------

I have played on machines that have been so abused that you HAVE to slap the buttons (or otherwise use excessive force) to get them to register your selections.  Happened to me this past weekend down in Oklahoma.  You press a button and nothing happens...press it again and nothing happens...finally, you hammer it and it finally clicks on with "Hold".
 
It's not always a matter of an inconsiderate neighbor.

I was recently playing a machine with buttons that were so ineffective that I had to really give them the ole 1-2 to get them to register. I actually apologized to my neighbor for making so much noise, but she said she was going thru the same thing. This was a really "up scale" casino, yet their machine maintenance was pitiful. These machines are manufactured with the knowledge that the buttons will get plenty of mileage, but of course regular casino maintenance is required. Nothing irks me like finding that 6 out of 10 VP machines in a casino have retarded buttons. For what the casinos are making off of the players, it sure seems like this situation could be avoided.

I will not play if I find a machine like that. I just move on.

It is frustrating to encounter such machines and normally I too just "move on" to another machine.  There is just too much danger in inadvertantly NOT holding the correct hand with these mechanical malfunctions.  In addition to the artificially introduced errors, these machines SLOW DOWN your play.  Actually, all of this "malfunction" business tends to favor the casino so there is not a huge incentive other than disgruntled customers, for them to repair them.
 
However, is some casinos to which I go, there just aren't that many machines so it is Hobson's Choice.

my reply to the maintence issue is to get up and play elsewhere. Living in the Las Vegas area gives me ample opportunity to do this. I also notice that v.p. machines with hard to hold hold buttons are usually located at the bar area. This is where drinks are spilled and sloshed around. You should probably avoid those areas if you take your v.p. play seriously !!!!-------Charles Arlington---------

I was playing in the El San Juan Hotel in Puerto Rico and lost a progressive because of a faulty button. Got 500 instead of 4,000. Ruined my vacation.

Chuck Arl is right; sticky buttons at the bar are common and it happened to me at the MGM three weeks ago on two machines side-by-side. We should have checked before putting our money in the darn thing didn't even let us play one hand nor could we cash out. Had to wait about 20 minutes for an attendant because of two bartenders that could have cared less. A real shame because I personally like the MGM. Yes, I did let my casino host know and he was very apologetic and took care of us with a couple of buffets No, we weren't staying there this trip. We were at the Wynn.

The slappers annoy me more than the drunks, cigar smokers, and talkers put together - but somehow less than the perfume wearers.  I agree that occasionally there will be a machine with sticky buttons, but the last four times I sat next to a slapper that was not the problem.  Back when we could smoke and play, I would light a cig and hold it in the hand next to the slapper just to annoy him back.  Alas, it hardly ever worked.  They just keep slapping until I give up and move.
