Watched one of my favorite's tonight and I can't imagine how many times I've seen it before and it keeps me amused each and everytime..."Back to the Future"  What's yours?

Good topic and good choices. Sound of Music, both 1965 and 2013. Wizard of Oz, North by North West, Casablanca. High Noon for a friend. "They do not make movies like they used to!" In this season full of cheap plastic crap from China my thoughts run to what I think are the best Christmas movies. Interestingly, both directed by Terrys:

"Time Bandits" (Terry Gilliam): irreligious and anti-materialistic, a perfect antidote to the excesses of the season.

"Bad Santa" (Terry Zwigoff): the language and situations make me laugh, especially when the dwarf gets it in the cojones and goes over like a pine tree; besides which it's really all about forgiveness, redemption and the power of unconditional love.

Then there are two with Humphrey Bogart, the original Chairman of the Board:

"The Maltese Falcon" (John Huston): not a shot or a line of dialogue is wasted; the source of my favorite toast: "Here's to plain speaking and clear understanding." The stuff that dreams are made of.

"Casablanca" (Michael Curtiz): another efficiently presented film with a delicious double double cross at the end that's always a delight to watch unfold. But oh God that dialogue; if everyone in the cast, playing right up to their leads (Bogie, Bergman, Claude Rains and Paul Henreid) hadn't been selling it for everything they'd got, what a disaster it would have been. Favorite lines: "We'll be there at eight." "I'll be there at ten."

One more that I'll always tune to that makes Mrs. Minn. roll her eyes:

"The Hustler" (Robert Rossen): Paul Newman, Piper Laurie, The Great One as my namesake, George C. Scott, with a cameo by Jake "Raging Bull" La Motta. Another perfect movie. "J.T.S. Brown, no ice, no glass." "You shoot a great game of pool, fat man."

Thank you for such interesting replies.  It's amazing to see what types of movies people like for various reasons.
 
The irony of my post/topic is I'm really not a movie buff, per se.  But once I see a movie I truly enjoy, I tend to watch the same ones over and over.
 
Couple other of my faves are "Pretty Woman" (Pretty Richard Gere) and "The American President"  (Would be nice to have a president with THAT kind of integrity and charm)

Fav movies:Cold Comfort Farm - a marvelous British film - dry, understated comedy at its best.  Directed by John Schlesinger and starring Kate Beckinsale and Ian Mckellen.The first three Star War films - not the first three episodes but the original ones.Jurassic Park - love Jeff GoldblumThe Usual SuspectsAnd many more.BTW, Galeygoo, I went to high school with Richard Gere when he was a short, cute kid who played in the high school band, and, I think, was on the wrestling team.  He was one year behind me so I really didn't pay much attention to him.  How time flies but good movies continue.
