Dollar Slots vs VP

Post by olds442jetaway »

DaBurglar got me thinking about this. I also posted earlier in another thread about the success my friend is having on the slots. I was wondering how many vp players mix it up with dollar slots and which they have more success at. In my experience just watching, the streaks of duds on slots far exceed those on vp, yet the rewards when they do come can be very high. What are some of your impressions? I am giving some consideration to a switch at least partially for 2014, but some more first hand feedback first would help. Also the boredom issue at least for me with slots is a major consideration.

Olds,I'm going to Biloxi in a few weeksand will play some slots.  The last time I went gambling was Las Vegas last August and I was lucky to hit four deuces on Deuces Wild.  A very bad trip as far as gambling was concerned.  I did take a wonderful helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon and that was great. So, I will mix it up in Biloxi and see how it goes with the slots and video poker.  Like you, I get really bored playing slots - except for Stinkin' Riches (which I seem to win 5-7 hundred dollars every time I play) and the Lord of the Rings game which I also hit fairly well on.So, yes, knowing that it costs a lot more to even earn any rewards or free play, and the paytables being what they are in Biloxi, I will play some slots and see how I can do.Anyone else have any thoughts?

I will play $5 slots to some degree on just about every gaming trip. There are a few that I like, and have had success on, like Quick Hits. They rack up Tier and Reward Credits quicker than VP.

As was stated, though, you can plow through some money without much return if you do not hit.

I will be in Biloxi, at the Beau Rivage, Jan 16-20, BTW.

Good luck folks on those trips. My wife like the the Stinkin Rich game too. She usually hits it with a 20 on our way out after our vp session. Quite often, she will get the bonus and win a 100 or so and that is on a penny machine.

You forgot to add: that virtually everyone plays a minimum of a dollar a spin on... haha

If you are looking to add tier points at beau rivage then slots are not a bad alternative since paytables blow at the Beau. But playing just for comps is not usually the best idea.

I like penny slots now and again, but with a 12% or so house edge, I rarely win. I have a hard enough time winning at video poker!

Yep...and many play 4 or 5 bucks a spin on those penny machines. I don't know the difference in return percentages on the penny games vs dollars and also if the percentages change when you play say max credits on a penny machine vs one dollar on a dollar machine. No way to find out that I know either. That is one reason I don't play them.

I like to play $1 video slots, but they can be expensive. I've done really great on them some trips but most trips Ive gotten my butt kicked. Its a nice respite when VP starts becoming a grind. You know, those days where you cant't hit a 4OAK for your life.

BillyJoe, We are going to just miss each other.  My charter is Jan. 11 - 14th.  Sorry we are going to miss each other.  If anyone else is taking the trip from Austin to Biloxi, please let me know on this post.I am definitely going to try some $1 slots which have a max of 2 credits a time.  I also am going to the Golden Nugget (got some free play in the mail).  They have a new casino in Biloxi and the free shuttle bus will get me there.  The good thing about Biloxi is the variety of casinos there so I can try different ones.Good luck everyone.

Good luck to both you and billyjoe on your trips to Biloxi. We looked at the Jan flight to Beau but decided the dates interfered with other events.

Some states make slot return information public.
Here is a link to some information about Iowa slots for FY2013(last two pages):

http://www.iowa.gov/irgc/FYTD2013.pdf

If you are interested, you can get information for other years here:

http://www.iowa.gov/irgc/gamrev2008-2013.htm

As far as I can tell they group vp and slots together by denomination on these reports.

Interesting reading for slot players.

I live in Wisconsin and my state makes very little information available. I wish they would.
