The death of XP
What are your plans for your PC when this happens in April?I really don't want Windows 8 as it seems to be like some smart phones with the touch screen and all.(I still use a dumb phone...don't have a need for all the bells and whistles.)I also read about Windows 7, but that will expire in 2020 (?)Do any of the new PCs or laptops come with Windows 8.1?

I am upgrading my XP laptop to Windows 7 (2020 is a long way off), which I run on my HP Mini. I think Windows 8 will become another Vista, and be gone before too long.

I have an
HP with windows 8 and I hate it!! I got a cheaper laptop that has all the apps and stuff, but not the touch screen and it's a pain in the you know what. The keyboard is ultra sensitive and can't even rest my hands on it without it flicking back and forth between the apps and zoom and heaven knows what else. I have no idea why they would give you all the apps stuff and no touch screen. I know of some peeps that are paying $100 just to have windows 7 installed . I have no smartphone either, and don't want all this apps stuff on my computer. That's what I get for just looking at the price and not doing good research. Good Luck! kati

DaBurglar I think she mentioned early on in her post that she had an HP. Maybe wishing for a new laptop is more affordable right now than investing in a new one. Maybe she just bought the HP and doesn't want to buy another.

mammajamma I bought a new Dell Inspiron laptop last August and it came with Windows 8. Dell hasn't reached out to me regarding a change to Windows 8.1.

mammajamma I bought a new Dell Inspiron laptop last August and it came with Windows 8. Dell hasn't reached out to me regarding a change to Windows 8.1.
I was a long time XP user but I purchased two new Windows 8 machines last spring, a Microsoft Surface Pro and a Dell All-In-One Desktop. Upgraded both to 8.1 in late August AT NO COST through the Windows App Store. Here is a link to some upgrade information:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... -windows-8
The upgrade process is not for the faint of heart! It takes quite a while because everything you need comes down online. Once the data is on your system there are a few stops and restarts some with messages letting you know what is happening and some with totally blank screens that are frightening.
All in all, I liked 8.0 and really like 8.1. The upgrade includes Explorer 11. The recent Explorer releases are great for zooming in while playing on this site and using the touch screens on my systems to play.
By the way, you can set up 8.1 to go right to a conventional desktop after login at which time you are looking at something that is very close to XP.

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (OEM) System Builder DVD 1 Pack, $97.95 on Amazon. Of course, you have to do the migration from XP.
