To Card or Not to Card?

Post by FloridaPhil »

Next week my wife and I will be on a three day comped trip to Biloxi.  We play mostly max coins when we're on these trips, but once in a while we play single coin to kill time.  We value these trips and don't want to do anything to mess them up.   Should be pull our cards when playing short coin?

I would say, No, Phil. Casinos like The Beau, I believe, issue comps based on total play and the frequency of visits, not ADT (average daily theoretical). To be safe, I would recommend speaking with a host to double check.

From my understanding, when you're booked on a comp, you're on the "clock" the entire time, so it's not worth playing without your card. But I would also try to ask a host to be sure.

I never play without my card in the reader, points are points. Maybe if you also never play for short periods of time. If you're at a casino that evaluates you based on ADT, it can cost you to make a small play. For example, let's say you have an average theo of $1,000 but one day you only generate a theo of $40. If the casino bases offers on your last four trips, you've reduced your theo from $1000 to $760. If some offers only go out to those with theos above $800. By playing a small amount with your card you've removed yourself from that offer. If you ALWAYS play your normal amount when you play, then I agree points are points. But not all people play like that.Bob

Thanks for the input Bob. My sessions usually run several hours, with several hours being 6 - 8, and occasionally it'll go a bit longer. I play max coin in. When I go out of town to play then, obviously, the sessions are longer and also multiple days.

I'm not saying that I don't play shorter sessions, I do, but even then I am playing at max coin but I would rather hold off and wait to play the longer session instead of just going for a short period of time.

What does "theo" stand for?  Thanks.

Average Daily Theoretical:"ADT is accumulated daily theoretical win, and is the current sum of the
coin in hold for all of the gaming sessions that have thus far occurred
during the casino day. The casino day can be arbitrarily set, but is
preferably from 6:00 am to 6:00 am, or as defined by a particular casino
property. Thus, over a 24 hr period the player’s ADT increases (as they
continuing playing), and so the total number of bonus reward credits
the player receives for the casino day increases as well."

Thanks for the info. It would be interesting to know what that number is in order to receive these offers from the Beau Rivage.  We have been receiving them for about 5 years. My wife and I are mostly quarter players, but we play a lot and we play on the same account.   We value the three comped nights at about $200 a night and the plane flights at $400.  It's a cool thing that someone actually values our quarter play.  I'm pretty sure this wouldn't get me a free sandwich in Vegas.
Last week I noticed a large billboard ad for the Beau right across the street from the Tampa Hard Rock.  I suspect the Florida casinos have been cutting into their business.
