Going Back to Vegas in June,Anything new for 2014?

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I are heading back to Vegas in June. Is there anything new for 2014 (besides the "High Roller")?

Also, last year we didn't rent a car, but we're thinking about renting one this year. Does anyone have tips/opinions on needing a car?

The last time I was in Vegas I rented a car because I wanted to see Hoover Dam. We also drove to Laughlin. During the trip we stop at almost all the little casinos on the way. This was a long day . Some of the small casinos nice.

Actually, we just got back from Borgata, which prompted (and financed) our decision for the Vegas trip.

In the middle of the strip, Harrahs/Caesars is remodelling a lot of their properties. The old Imperial Palace is now The Quad, the ally includes The Hi Roller ride, and on the corner will be the new boutique hotel containing Giada's first Vegas restaurant.

  I always rent a car when I go to Las Vegas because I, like JDW, enjoy the freedom of having a car at my disposal. Cabbing gets expensive, just the cost of round trip from/to McCarran will pay for 2 days of the rental. Add in the cost of a cab round trip to/from Sam's Town, Red Rock, or Green Valley Ranch makes it an even easier no brainer for me.
 
  We also made the drive to Laughlin once, we wouldn't have had that option without a rental car. You can valet park the rental for free, less the 2 bucks or so that you give the valet porter but I still like doing this better than standing in a cab stand line. And last but not least I need to get my Jack in the Box fix at least once during the trip so going in a rental car instead of a cab is better too.
 
  To me renting a car makes so much more sense.

Yep...rental car is the way to go on almost any trip. Especially, if you like driving like I do. Just had my Jakes Wayback Burger " fix " today. Compensated by having a salad and some fruit for dinner. Would rather have had another burger though.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. The Encore is our hotel of choice and last year is was a long travel to Mandalay Bay and the Tropicana. This year we want to visit the Palms and some of the off-strip casinos.

Thank youI always say make sure you visit downtown and the Fremont Street Experience, and keep in mind that the best paytables in Vegas are often found either Downtown or on one of the Off strip properties, but since downtown has so many casinos within easy walking distance, I say plan at least a good portion of your total play when you are downtown!    Also, there have been some good renovations and changes downtown over the years, and one that I am really looking forward to checking out is OSCAR GOODMANS Steakhouse that offers that iconic view of Fremont Street from the PLAZA.....its a view that was made famous in the movie "CASINO" in 1995, but back then it was just part of the crappy JAckie Gaughan SLUM-A-PALOOZA!       Today, the plaza has cleaned up its act and Oscar put his name on the new Steakhouse, which offers great steaks and his signature MARTINI!    Plus, they have lovely female hostesses that join your dinner party for a drink and conversation!   Dont worry, even if you are married, the whole thing is really classy and tasteful!I once read that the downtown Vegas PLAZA Hotel is the most photgraphed and filmed spot in Vegas, and perhaps the entire USA....anyone confirm this???
