Is this VP's future?
My local Harrah's (Rincon - San Diego) now features the $25 JoB at 8/5... did not see a soul playing. Is this the future of VP?

I believe it is the future of the casino's view of VP and risk. The casino today does not want to be exposed to big payouts, so the trend that I see is limiting the types of games available at the larger denoms. You will always have those RFs (except maybe for Olds ), but other high volatility games, like TDB, are not often available at larger denoms.

Wow, that's pretty stinky for $25. The Florida tribal casinos are notoriously tight and 8/5 Jacks is the standard at quarters. 9/6 Jacks starts at $2 a point. You're only 350 miles from Vegas, that's a no brainer...

Every casino chooses its own pay schedules --- and they change periodically.
Looking at one casino and predicting "this is what it will be like everywhere" is silly. Even predicting that Rincon itself will never get looser is a risky prediction. Sooner or later they'll get a vp of slots with a different take on the best way to lay out a slot florr.
For those stakes, check out Viejas --- which isn't too far away from Rincon (well, it's not next door but it's a lot closer than Vegas --- and they have much better high stakes video poker than any casino in Vegas.) Although it's been more than a year since I was there, they had several varieties of 99.8%+ games in their high limit room --- all of which come with a pretty accurate auto-hold.
