Re: The Overall State of things in General
There was no judging in my post. Just a statement of facts and observations. In fact, many of those huge people are seriously ill and are carrying around oxygen tanks with them. At least they for a time are able to get out and enjoy themselves a little. My prayers go out to you for a successful operation and stability of the condition. Unfortunately, even in younger people in this country, this disease is taking hold and a toll on many of us and for many goes undetected for years.

I agree with what has been most recently posted. I have been in the medical profession for more years than I care to admit and it is definitely depressing to me to see so many people using motorized scooters who would in fact benefit to some degree from self-mobility. But I also agree with Edog that there are many individuals who are beyond the point of self-mobility and for these folks a scooter can make a huge difference in the quality of life. My thought has always been that an individual should use some form of self-mobility for as long as he physically can before resorting to a scooter. And for those of us who are so fortunate to still have total self-mobility, please don't ever take it for granted! Fitness and proper nutrition can stave off many (but not all) of the conditions that will eventually rob you of your self-mobility. In a casino, you are presented with many choices that can affect your future quality of life, such as the smoking vs the non-smoking section; stairs vs elevator; valet parking vs parking your car yourself and hoofing it back to the casino; and of course, filling up at the salad bar and with plenty of water before you tackle one of those calorie-dense casino buffets. In addition, anyone who plays video poker regularly (and especially those over 50) needs to get up and move around briskly at least once per hour.

Da, some of these obese people you are talking about may have an ailment called diabetes. I am sure you have heard of it. It either gets your feet or your eyes. My polish princess has this affliction it got her eyes, On this coming thursday she is having surgery on both eyes again. This is only delaying the inevitable. So be careful before you judge perception may not be reality.yes, i understand what you are saying. I hope your ordeal works out for the best.As I said before, if someone truly needs a scooter for whatever reason, then of course, use it! But in the case of what you mentioned, diabetes, I would make the distinction between a person who has diabetes and as a result became obese (such as might happen with someone who is BORN with it) VS. Someone who after years of poor diet and zero exercise and other unhealthy habits becomes obese and DEVELOPS diabetes....well you see the point. A scooter actually hurts the second type of scenario since in MANY cases, even light to moderate activity and exercise will alleviate and improve a diabetic's health. And of course, some people get sick and diabetic for reasons some never ever know or figure out. Truth is, only YOU know in your heart if a scooter is truly needed or is the result of plain old laziness.
