Re: More hideous VP results, but with a twist
The only continuation of the immediate topic in this thread I will make is this one. I have a question for you Francois and it is a relatively simple one: How many times has France stepped up to the plate and tried to stop: oppression and dictatorships in the world? The United States of America has become the "World Police" but that could be attributed to the fact that we were the only ones who would stand up. Before you mention Vietnam I would do a bit of research on what happened to your countrymen in Vietnam, 1959-1963. Every: war, police action, skirmish, squabble, that the United States has entered into has gained them absolutely nothing except for the pain of loved ones lost fighting those battles.

I do not in any way propose that France is a nation greater than America. I am well traveled. I have seen much and met many people. I do not claim to be right about America. Indeed, I hope that I am wrong. I only share my personal opinion and a view that is shared by many all around the world.
Most of my travel in America is in the more popular places to travel. My impressions are largely formed by these experiences and those that are shared globally by the international news. Your nation is huge, with a great variety. I did have one occasion to visit a small town in Ohio. I was well received and indeed, it felt like another country altogether than what I have visited much in the past. The people were polite. They found pleasure in their families and the simple things of this world. It made me think that this is what America used to be, what people of this World longed to be a part of. This is not the America that the world sees any longer, though it lives on in places unheard of. What we do see is your leaders. We see your Hollywood, we see your political and social movements filled with unrighteous anger. Even those who stand for a good cause do so with great ignorance, anger and folly. We see the reports of America's economy, of your great unemployment while hiring out to the lowest bidder in foreign countries. Where you manufacture nothing and flock to Walmart to devour the cheap contents from China. We see that your wars, at a great cost, have lead nowhere. And we wonder why the greatness of America lies in the shadows instead of at the forefront of what you display to the world. The impression is that America is no longer great. Any nation has great people among it. But for a nation to be great, it must put their best people forward. By my own impressions and those who I encounter, that is not the current state of America.

Funny how the people of our country cant see what is right before there eyes. A lot of truths in his rambling. All the political in fighting and ongoing "acceptance" of things that were taboo or looked down on when I was young are ruining what made this a great nation. I am probably one of the youngest members of this forum but can no one else see our country is going down the tubes fast? I point out things to my kids that were not acceptable even a few years ago and they are amazed. Being a "freak" or a "punk" is ok, having kids with 3 different parents and no marriage is totally ok.... oh well guess I should just let it go. As far as the military goes, we have been and always will be the bravest of people always looking out for others freedoms UNLESS you are a trade partner then we look the other way...or if you are a ally we don't care how you treat your citizens.

I am thinking about forking over the $80 for a gold membership. Does anyone know if it comes with the ability to ignore people like Daburglar that constantly whine all the time?

Gold is worth it. I never considered it worthwhile but won it in the annual contest and have really enjoyed it.

I would be the first to admit that our country has a lot of problems. It is somewhat frightening, but then again, nothing ever remains the same forever. History has taught us that all great nations seem to 'die out' after about 300 years. Maybe we are on that path also.
Throughout America's history, there always seem to be some sort of catalyst that would snap us back in line when we start to drift - a rallying point that we can all agree on. Perhaps, in the near future, something will happen that will get our collective attention.
