Re: Time to take a break...
I am sorry you have reached this point, but if you truly believe you will be happier and more at peace by avoiding gambling, then its a no brainer......good luck in your non-gambling, lol.....but you did state that you will still use comps, so does this mean you still might show up in AC at harrahs from time to time?? If so please give us (me) a heads up because I actually know a LOT of non-gambling things to do in AC (which is one of the reasons I still go to that destination, for those of you who insist on asking why I still go to AC if the video poker sucks as bad as I portray....)Sidenote: Because of a couple of small but annoying health problems, my WSOP trip scheduled for early June has been postponed, and I sold three of my event entries to a friend and one to my Brother, who left today to play ........therefore, I will be in AC from June 8 thru at least June 17, maybe longer.......I may still fly out to Vegas around July 4 to at least spend a couple days watching the WSOP MAin Event (the $10,000 world championship)......but consider June now to be just a kickback in AC type of month!

Burglar, sorry your health is preventing you from the Vegas trip. You seem to enjoy and do well at live poker. I hope that you get to feeling better.

That's quite chivalrous and kind of you to say, Williamjoeseph, but dont worry, the health issues are nothing too serious, just more annoying and inconvenient, and I did not want to have to deal with the long flight, Vegas scorching heat and any possible other distractions while sinking several thousand dollars into playing in some WSOP events.....as you must know yourself from playing live poker N/L texas holdem, it is really difficult to concentrate and bring your Best game to the table when you are in excruciating pain or feel otherwise crappy, and since I rarely take painkillers or even Aspirin but prefer to sit and soak in a hot tub, I cannot fathom them allowing me to sit at a poker table in 8 feet by 5 feet of steaming water (plus who the hell can play N/L holdem on painkillers, you'd be drooling on the cards and nodding off on the table!)I will hopefully play a few tourney events in AC at Borgata though......it is a whole different story playing a event where you bought in for $150 rather than a WSOP event where you bought in for $1500 or $2000 (or more)........although I find if I am in a moderate but NOT excruciating amount of pain, that can actually HELP my poker playing as it seems to heighten my senses and agression somewhat....Hey Roveer......maybe you should give LIVE poker a chance, this offers a lot more control than machines, whereby you only wager a set limited amount, and it can last for a LONG time while playing at a table with live people, and it can be fun and relaxing way beyond the crappy AC machines......

Chin up DB. I know you have that type of attitude to deal with and lick whatever is currently going on. Good luck in A/C if you decide to play there.

Yeah - I hear you. That is another reason that I do not particularly enjoy live poker. It turns into an endurance match, and is very draining.

Going to miss the pictures but I always wondered the bankroll involved. I am mostly a $1 player with some $2,$5 mixed in and I am pretty much at the same point with Poker. Sadly it's just not what it used to be. You used to be able to come out of a session up a down a few hundred and if you get a HP or 2 your come home with money or you would loose a on occasions. But for the most part it was fun for several hours with a wash. But nowadays its 90% loosing sessions. Even if you hit a HP you still come out a loser cause you are so far in or if you hit early you want to keep playing. It is just not enough in the middle to keep it going like it used to be. It seems likes it takes $1500 to get your first quad and $20,000 to hit a $2,000 JP. You are doing the right thing several people I know have given it up and they were all regulars (2-3 times a week). I am very close to that point. Like you I really don't even enjoy it anymore cause its a lose - lose. Win today give it back tomorrow its and endless cycle.

excellent post SPX, and I really do mean that.......Even though I have suspended my "AC video poker is NOT kosher" focus, I still believe there are many unanswered questions and unresolved issues both with AC video poker (which Roveer plays by the way), and video poker in general.....Here is the biggest (imho): Clearly something really significant has happened with how Video Poker transpires in the course of the typical serious player's session(s)......it is far more difficult to simply "hold our own" (forget winning for a moment, lets just focus on what Roveer, and SPX are saying)........we can no longer simply play and have fun and earn comps without consistently LOSING an unacceptable amount of money both in the short run and long run.Since this is almost universally agreed upon by most serious players, something clearly and irrevocably has changed from the game(s) and machines we played prior to at least 2005, maybe prior to 2001....somewhere in that span of time......If we exclude that casinos are ALL engaging in a massive conspiracy with the help of regulatory bodies, then I think we really are left with the fact that, today's super fast computer chips with their million shuffles-per-second RNG speeds have somehow altered the way hands and cards are played out and resolved. What else could it truly be?Remember Mr. Holmes (Sherlock, not Larry....or John lol): Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever is left, however improbable is the answer......oh gee, wait a second......did we really prove that it is IMPOSSIBLE for casinos to RIG the game(s)???? OH CRAP!!! Here I go again......!!!

Daburglar would you PLEASE just go away. I for one am tired of hearing about the same thing over and over again. It is NOT universally agreed upon by most serious players. It is an aberration created in your own mind. With over 2.6 million combinations of cards possible every time you shuffle a deck of cards strange things can happen.
One thing that is universally agreed upon by most serious players is that we tire of hearing about how bad things in your opinion. I just read an article about how many jackpots have been hit in AC since the beginning of the year over $75,000. There are like 50 or a hundred of them. If there are that many that size imagine how many there are at $5000 or higher.
I do not have the exact web address but it is something like www.nj.gov/ips/ge/docs/financials/jackpots. This may not be the exact address but you are a smart guy and if you are so inclined you will figure it out.
My main point in this post is this. Most of us on this forum our serious players and the last thing we need to hear is how the machines have been changed, how the casinos are rigging the game, etc. etc. etc. It's called gambling. At least in Video Poker there are posted pay tables and a RNG. If you do not enjoy VP in its current form please find something else to do with your spare time.

Hey, thanks for saying I am a "smart guy", that was nice. Also, I will indeed look for the info/article on the jackpots, that truly is intriguiging so again, THANKS for sharing that.As for the rest of this post, I think I will pass on your invitation to stop posting or alter what you seem to believe is my theme or intent, but I appreciate your thoughts and have given them due consideration....may I invite you to just ignore any posts I make that happen to bother you like this one apparently did? Contrary to what you seem to think, not ALL of my posts deal with the topics you find annoying......But if I may return the favor (a burglar ALWAYS pays his debts), since you previously posted (at length) on the merits of having a POSITIVE attitude, I find the NEGATIVE accusatory tone of this last post of yours to be troubling......even hypocritical in a major way. So I will take a positive tact and give you the benefit of the doubt and choose to believe you simply had a bad day, maybe you had a migraine, or stubbed your toe or a bird pooped on your freshly washed car and that influenced the tone and nature of your post.Your pal, Daburglar

Hey pal,
Even someone with a positive mental attitude can only take so much of you when you get into one of your moods. There is a reason that myself, Doris, Tedlark, and others respond to you the way that we do. You bring it on yourself.
