   Olds I cringe when someone sitting next to me gets AWAK and they're playing JOB. I'm not critical of their game choice but JOB just isn't my cup of tea.

I don't play JoB unless it's the best paying game available by a decent margin. And I'm thankful it's not the best game in many places. Would much rather play Bonus if I'm going to play that "type" of game (2 for 1 for 2 pair).

Playing VP we probably will end up spending the $500. But unlike buying the ticket to the Madonna concert, the possibility exists for getting lucky and spending less than the $500 or even coming out ahead after a night's entertainment.That's one possibility. Losing $2000 is another. On average, you'll get the EV of the game --- multiplied by your competence level. Sometimes you'll be ahead of it and sometimes you'll be behind.It reminds of of the news about John Daly a few weeks ago. He lost $55 million over the last decade or so and says it was worth it because he had a good time. That might make sense to some of you. It doesn't to me.Bob

  And walking around all the time immitating a popsicle makes no sense to me either. Having fun and good times (for those of us who do)makes our time on this earth just a bit more pleasurable than those who don't enjoy fun and good times.  So basically is Bob saying that he doesn't enjoy a good meal because what do you have left after you have eaten it?

     Just back from another trip. Not a winning one unfortunately. I did play job for 2 hours in between other games. It was a 9/6 quarter game and I thought I would give it a chance since the other games weren't so hot at the time. Got cured in a hurry. Before my hundred disappeared in short order, it had two runs of dud hands of between 25 and 35 each without even 2 pair.

I said nothing of the kind.But since you brought it up, I do prefer a healthy half-hour buffet (where I pick and choose sensibly and don't take all night doing it) to a 2-hour gourmet meal. Weight management is not as hard for me under those circumstances and I usually have better things to do (my opinion) than wasting that much time in a restaurant.If people think spending that much time, consuming 1,000+ calories in one meal, and imbibing all that "free" alcohol makes for a good life, they are entitled to their opinion. I don't share any part of that opinion.BobBob

Bob: I don't get either the $2000 or John Daly analogy. I am talking about spending a set amount of discretionary funds on a night out of entertainment. Sure if you have no self-discipline you could spend (or lose from your perspective) more than the $500. It makes sense to me to allocate discretionary funds set aside for entertainment for whatever floats your boat. I'd rather spend an evening in a casino at a VP machine rather than playing golf for example in 100+ heat.

BTW, I am looking at a cd of your WinPoker in an envelope dated August 4, 2002. Thank you as WinPoker has allowed my wife and I to improve and maintain our competence and thus enjoy better VP results through the years.

I have to agree with Bob on this. Anything under 99% isn't playable. In fact, I personally would never play anything under the 99.54% (JOB) or 99.58% TDB level. At least you have a chance with these machines.

  joe did you read OTABILLS's entire original post on this? Mentioned in the post is something regarding better paytables. Not mentioned was losing $2,000.00.

I am not trying to slam Billy Joe. I live in Henderson NV. I have played some big VP many times. I have won a ton and lost a ton. As Bob said, it does cut you.

Thanks to all that commentated. Yes - I do have an affinity for TDB, in spite of it's less than positive EV and high volatility. But, honestly, my rationale is simple. I am not a 'grinder' in VP. I live in Florida, so my gaming trips are over a few days. I do play quite a bit, but in my opinion, not nearly enough for the mathematics of ANY game to play themselves completely out. A fortunate hit of AWAK or TTF/kckr on TDB goes a long way in return on a gaming trip, compared with other games.

I use a stop loss money management approach, so if the premium hands do not materialize, I move on to something else.

And one more thing. I AM guilty of enjoying a good, elegant meal, with a nice French red wine, and perhaps a bourbon to end the evening, in the company of an interesting person of the female persuasion. How that could EVER be "a waste of time", I do not know. Life is good..
