Question

Post by pokeherguy »

This a question my brother ask me concerning VP. If he switched from playing slots to VP and played the same way as myself would he see close to the same results?

I answered yes to his question because I see no reason why he shouldn't as long as he does actually play like I do. He has been playing slots for a long time and has never saw a year where he came out ahead. I have came out ahead playing VP for 3 years in a row and it looks like it will be 4 at the end of this year. I won't lie and say I make a lot but last year was pretty normal and I finished ahead $6,200. I don't see anything special about the way I play so why would he not see close to the same results? He says he would be happy just to break even.

Lot's of reasons. However, he almost surely do better at VP than he would at slots given just a little attention to making good plays. On the other hand, some people are simply luckier than others over fairly long periods of time. I would never guarantee someone a win, even playing highly positive situations, given the volatility of VP. I think the best you can do is what I previously stated. Assure him that his results over time will be much better than he has done on the slots.

We talked about it some more today after I had spent a little more time thinking about it and I may have jumped the gun a bit with my answer. I had 52 handpays last year and was up and down during the year so you never really know. But like I explained to him those 52 handpays allowed me to play all I wanted to and still finished to the good. Had I broke even or even lost some, VP is still a much better value than slots.

I was going to reply to your first message and say pretty much what you brought up yourself in your follow-up.  Your brother may or may not match the results you've had over the last few years - you've had a good run! - but IMO I think he'll be happier (long term) with VP than slots.

Maybe he lost it playing a "Martingale style" progression on video poker.

First of all, not all handpays are W2G events. On some older machines handpays can be for much smaller amounts. I know because I play many of these types of machines and probably have just as many handpays. Of course, these handpays are just part of the overall payback of the machine so do not imply any kind of profit in and of themselves.

I know what happened. It flew away while pokeherguy was riding at high speed on a motorcycle through the desert.

Hey pokeherguy, I think alr has some insight to share with you but he can't seem to get his posts up.
