I am kind of new at this, what is a hand pay?

A handpay is when you are paid by an attendant, as opposed to being paid by the machine. Generally speaking, most handpays are occuring on hits of $500 or more, although with the advent of TITO, casinos are moving toward only making handpays on W2G hits($1200 or more).

A hand pay occurs for various reasons. On older coin based machines larger jackpots were paid by hand whenever the total amount of coin was greater than an internal value. This is often 4 aces or some or some other "jackpot" type results. For example, 4 deuces on a deuces wild machine was typically a hand pay. In addition, royals were usually paid by hand.

What usually happens is the machine locks up with a message "call attendent" on the monitor. A casino employee comes over, verifies the win and pays the win in cash (or optionally check for very large wins).

More recently with ticket-in ticket-out (TITO) machines, hand pays occur mostly when the total dollar amount is at least $1200. While some casinos still pay all royals by hand it is becoming rarer. The $1200 value is an IRS requirement for issuing a W2G form.

{Hey pokeherguy, I think alr has some insight to share with you but he can't seem to get his posts up.}

Why can he not get his post up? I had no idea that I had done so bad. I would love to hear how I could improve on the way I play the game. In all seriousness how can you play VP as much as I do and not expect close to the same results? I was just proud of the fact that I came out ahead.
