I think Deuces Wild is the best video poker game by far.  The varience is not all that bad and it's very exciting because you never know what's going to happen from one hand to the next.  I like to switch denominations as I play and DW has frequent runs that I try to take advantage of.  Professional players will tell you this doesn't work, but it does for me.  I play strickly for fun, so anything that makes the game more exciting is fair game as far as I am concerned.

Freeslots.com has the best free VP training program on the internet IMO. It is only available in single game format but has JOB, DW, DDB, etc. etc. It does not have STP or Dreamcard or other newer variations that are available on this website but it does have all the basic games. The thing I like about freeslots. com's training program is that when you do make a mistake it tells you the magnitude of the mistake. That way you know how big of a mistake you made. Some mistakes are no big deal.

Also if you have not already done so I strongly recommend purchasing the gold membership on this website as the benefits you receive far outweigh the yearly cost. I wish they had a better training program here but they don't.

Don't misunderstand - JoB does not suck. It is what it is. It really depends on why you are playing in the first place.

I would relate it to investing. Bonds vs Stocks. In bonds, you are rarely given a surprise increase in your return (ie an RF in JoB), but in stocks, your opportunities are much greater for a sizeable return (ie Quads Aces with a kicker in TDB).

But stocks are normally much more volatile. If the company goes broke with bonds you normally get some of your money back but with stocks you are usually wiped out. Volatility can cut both ways.

They don't call it "gambling" for nothing. I'd rather forsake the extra 5 credits on a 3oak for the chance to land quad babies (2's,3's,4's) and/or aces with a kicker on TDB. But with so many variations of the game, there's something to appeal to everyone. My bottom line, pay the bills first, then go have fun.

Welcome to the board.

Freeslots.com is a great resource and I recommend it. One bit of advice, I practiced video poker at home for months before stepping into a casino. Also, a "bad game" is any game you play in which you don't know how to play.

Just my take on things.

Pretty much what Phil said. In JoB if you get 3 unsuited high cards you keep the lower two. Better chances at a pair, two pair, 3oak, straight, full house and 4oak.

With one exception - hold all three of K Q J offsuit (with two unpaired cards lower than 9).
