How To Draw a Crowd

Post by Lucky Larry »

Had a really wild thing happen Tuesday at the casino which drew a huge crowd including "suits".

I placed a bill a machine and it jammed. No big deal, I turned on the "help" light and within a minute or two a "slot attendant" came over to clear the jam. She opens up the machine and raises the bill acceptor, hands me my mutilated bill and "bang" the money deposit box lid falls down. Now its a BIG DEAL!!!

She gets this "emergency look" and immediately radios some code number and the location. I move back about 3 feet. Within 10-15 seconds security arrives, then another slot attendant, then a "slot tech" and then the suits start arriving. At least six guys in suits - security supervisor, two whose tags identify them as "inspectors" and probably the floor supervisor and another whose tag I couldn't read. Meanwhile Sweet C and I are sitting watching the party. After a few minutes one of the suits tells the slot tech to inspect the lock box. She then finds a small (3"-4") piece of electrical wire loose in the machine and states it must have kept the box from locking completely. Everyone gets to inspect the wire, check the box and the inspectors take it with them. The suits apologize to me for that its taking so long to resolve the problem and then after 5-6 minutes everyone disappears. I'm sure headed back to the cameras. The bill acceptor is closed and I try another bill. All-in-all it was an interesting scene. Its also been a long time since I've seen so many middle-aged guys move that fast.

LL I had a deal about a month ago like yours. I put a ticket in  a machine and then a $20.00. Well no $20 showed up on the counter. I have had this many times, a slot attendant opens the machine and there the bill is. Not this time. She then calls in the slot tech and 2 guys show up. Well after 5 minutes another call is made. A security guard and a women dressed to the hilt comes over and now there is 5 people looking this over. I have to tell each group what happened each time they show up. Well with the security guard watching her every move she removes the locked box and opens it up. Since it was early in  the day there was only 2 items in the box my ticket followed by the $20 I put in. They took out the $20 gave it to me and all was well!

Larry, I enjoyed the way you related that incident....you made it fairly lively and interesting, thanks. Some questions:What casino was this?    Were you able to see the total contents of the money box, and did it spill all over the place?   How much cash do you think we are talking here?I have to say, the celerity and the numbers of the "responders" is surprising for one little old machine and a relatively innocuous "incident"......they must have been bored maybe?  lol   OR....perhaps some corporate HR bigwig was there looking for jobs to cut and they all wanted to look busy and/or important???

Coushatta Casino Kinder, La.

I couldn't see the money and it didn't spill out. I've seen the exchange of cash boxes occur several times over the years. This was a front security cover that would have allowed the box to be removed.

Can't answer about cash but I know they casino cash crew was changing out boxes the day before around 5 am when I went up for the night so I wouldn't expect it to be full.

Hi Larry - been wanting to post and ur story reminded me - about 8 weeks ago won big at L'Auberge - 4 x Royal Flush for $16,000 - as they are going thru their checking before paying a big jackpot I hear the tech go "Uh Oh" - not what u want to hear in a Casino waiting to be paid - I asked why "Uh Oh" and he said the security tape was torn on the "black box" - well here come the suits including the Casino Manager and Head of Security - I was assured the last thing L'Auberge wanted to do was not pay a Jackpot but they had to get permission from the State to pay me -we all sat there until one of the Suits decided the tape was torn but not completely - long story short I got my money after about an hour wait

Congratulations Gigi2!!!

Unless something happens out of the norm, most of us have no idea the protocol that is in place to insure "clean gambling".   Sweet C hit a RF on $10 machine but no one every came to check because the machine was communicating an $800 hit instead of $8K. Finally, another player was sent to get me and I notified security.   It was when we first started gambling at Isle and we were both worried they wouldn't pay but it just took getting their attention.

We'll have to try to meet up at LC one trip. Have you heard when the new Golden Nugget is going to open? We've heard conflicting dates - Thanksgiving - January 1, 2015.

I have heard December - Can't wait - I am almost to Elite status for first time - hoping that will get some attention when Golden Nuggett opens - so tired of dirty casino and macines, hotel mess ups, broken drink stations - surely a lite competition will help - I went on in that trip to hit Aces with a 2 with a 3 times multiplier for $6000 - another royal for $4000 and multiple Aces wth kickers for about a $27,000 trip - and I was staking my Kids to play

Slot tech's don't have access to the cash box. Hence the lady dressed to the hilt. Probably a "cage" supervisor with two KEYS. One to remove the box from the machine, one to open the box.

While in Biloxi this last weekend, I ran into the old Head Pro from Fallen Oak. He is going to be the Head Pro at the Golden Nugget Golf Course in Lake Charles when it opens. He told me that they were expecting to open by the end of the year.

billyjoe,
Thanks for the info. It makes lots of sense to open before Jan. 1 if they can. The hotel/casino look like the outside is all finished construction-wise. The Golden Nugget should give L'Auberge a good run for the high-rollers from Houston and Texas. Local Texas boy, Tilman Fertitta - GN owner, is getting all the experience he needs to move when Texas finally (but too late) allows legalized casino gambling. Of course his cousins who run the Station Casinos in Vegas can offer any help he needs.
