VP tournament ?

Seems like I remember seeing a previous post asking about playing in one of these tournaments but I didn't pay much attention to it. I've never played in one before but there is one coming up in my area and the top prize is pretty good. Is there any strategy to use or should I just play like I usually do?

Too many variables to give a blanket do/don't list. It's dependent upon how the tournament is set-up. Get more info on the tournament structure.

Play as fast as you can, use two hands if possible too! Don't think too long on a given hand such as an inside straight or 3 cards to a flush. It will bog you down. The tourneys can be fun and see if they run them on DDB machines. This can ensure that a premium hand can still help!---CWA---

I love VP tourneys...play as fast as you can. the ones I play are always DDB. They are fun and I meet a lot of nice people.

Looks like the game being played will be Jacks or Better which is bad for me because I never play this game.

How many sessions? Do points carry over from each session? Is it a fixed # of hands or is it as many as you can play in the allotted time??????? That's why i said earlier that there isn't a blanket statement that you can give for v.p. tourneys. Too many variables.

Its gonna be 10 minute sessions, points do not carry over.

If it is just 10 minute session of JOB then playng fast is your biggest asset. Strategy is secondary. In the event like this one where I have played there were around 30 players (5 advanced) for each session. You typically needed at least 1000 credits and sometimes even more depending on the speed of the other players. If I was under 1000 points in the last minute then I started going for quads. Of course, if this tournament is new it may be that faster players haven't discovered it and you can get by with 900 credits.
