Would you go against the math?
You are having a really bad day playing Draw Video Poker. Or maybe you are having a great day and you are plenty of credits up for the session. Would you go against the math in the following scenarios? I must admit not often, but once in awhile I do.
1. You are dealt 3 to a Royal and also have a high pair. Would you toss the winner and go for the Royal?
2. You are dealt 4 to a Straight Flush and also have a dealt regular Straight. Do you toss it and go for the Straight Flush? If you would go for the Straight Flush, would it make a difference to you if it was inside or outside?

1. - I would go for the royal. 2. - I would go for the straight flush. Even if you don't catch the straight flush you might still catch another straight on the draw.

I think you know my answers...lol (also assuming you're playing games where high pair/straight was always correct)
Going for an inside straight flush with the made straight is the worst of the 3, imo. Also, is 230 extra credits going to make a lot of difference when you're playing 6 hours plus in a session?
The Royal thing isn't super bad if you are interested in hitting more royals, or looking to get a gigantic win/bail out your session. If you chased it every time, it only costs you 0.07% overall at 9/6 JoB and 0.06% at 8/5 Bonus when you always toss KK-JJ for 3 to a Royal.
Generally speaking, this is a play I definitely see more men make vs. women when I glance at others playing to slow myself down.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. And Vman, that .07% is the number I was looking for. That really adds up over the course of my year to let's see, 800,000 or so hands at about 2 bucks a hand x .07% = 1120 bucks. Well, that does buy a lot of beer, speaking of which I now owe you 49 beers or one more than last week. Oh, what the heck. If you and the GF get out here, I'll make sure you get at least one night free at Mohegan.
I think it is after a couple that I do take those shots at the big hands. And speaking of the gals and watching other players, I see more gals keep a regular flush when they have 4 to a Royal than I can count.
One time I even offered the gal playing next to me to pay her in cash twice the value of her flush if she went for the Royal and didn't get it. I don't think she believed me even though we both had a couple, but mine was O'Douls that night.
