Golden Nugget Opening
Sweet C and I played/stayed at the new Golden Nugget Lake Charles Monday night after it opened up at noon. The casino is touted as a Vegas style casino and after seeing it, it truly is a Vegas quality casino. From the Valet entry to the huge collection of shops and top quality restaurants it meets the criteria. The hotel and hotel rooms while still being completed are also beautiful and with lots of classy touches.
The casino includes 1600 machines of which about 50-60 are video poker. Because the crowds were so big I couldn't access all of the machines; ones we noted included classic single play Game Kings; 2 - 100 play multi-denomination; several All Star with limited STP multi-denomination; 25¢ Spin ONLY; Ultimate X, Cash King; game selections are limited so we'll keep checking future load sets.
Pay tables for most games are in the 97-98% range.
DW 25-16-13 / 20-12-10 (96.77 - 97.49)
DDB 8-5 / 9-5 (96.80-97.88)
TDB 9-5 / 9-6 (97.01-98.17)
Comps are $3/1pt-slots and $10/1 pt-VP; There is no Cash Return/Cash Reward available on VP machines. The software system fails to allow constant checking of points. Some of the VP machines appear to second-handers (probably from other GN locations). However; as soon as a sticky button was noted to a roving Slot Supervisor it was repaired during the next shift.
Side note: Tilman Fertitta, the owner of Golden Nuggets, Landry's, Salt Grass Trails, etc. was constantly on the floor in casual dress talking to players and with suits and maintenance representatives as he was personally pointing out maintenance issues as simple as chipped paint. Those who know of him from Houston know he's always been a rich man with a common man's touch. He even had his 164' "Super Yacht" with helicopter at the new marina. One of his other corporate helicopters was constantly landing and bringing in the "friends and family" from Texas.
BTW: As per billyjoe's comment on another topic, Sweet C did hit the first RF-as a matter of fact two within 15 minutes playing multi-hand 10¢ after hitting 4 Aces twice on DDB on day #1. I was dealt 4 Aces with a kicker.....on deuces.

Sounds really nice, but paytables not so hot. That doesn't seem to matter so much anymore in the short run though. If the overall experience is great, then a couple of hundred bucks less in total return really doesn't matter that much I guess.

No 99%+ at all? Disappointing.
Was sweet c's royal the first one in the casino? That would be cool.

No, the nice old lady down from us hit a 25¢ Royal Flush but was only playing 4 coin for $250 instead of a $1,000.

Great post on the new casino LL. I have a room next week and hope to send some more pictures.
FYI: Hotel Registration is at the far end of Valet to your left as you enter. The parking garage entrance comes in at the far end away from the Hotel Registration/Elevators and near the buffet. Shops/dining areas line the hallway and the inner ones back up to the casino. You can see inside the casino as you walk through many of the areas.
The rooms on the hotel wing along the Lake are numbered from 01-26 with odd numbered rooms facing the water. Even faces the pool/golf course.
I don't remember what the wing facing L'Auberge was numbered. Upper floor give a great view of the area.
Best of luck and post some pictures. I'll try to post some of the others we took. Finishing grades for my University Students.

Gigi was going in Tuesday night so she should have another report. Hopefully she hit big. Maybe we can all arrange to meet up. We are so looking forward to spending New Year's Eve there. Weren't sure whether we would stay at Coushatta or Golden Nugget for NYE but GN won out.

Stopped at the Golden Nugget Tuesday 12-9-14... Lots of glitz!! The
casino is open along with the Hotel. There is still a lot of work being
down around the property along with the golf course that's not open yet.
Lots of video poker machines thru out the casino, bar tops, slant tops
and some of the older up right machines.. The pay tables on all the
single line machine that I looked at are terrible/tight.. Played at some
slant tops and the main bar for a few hours, nothing good to report
dropped a quick $200. without even hitting one quad..Left and went to my
favorite casino Coushatta and manage to win back what I lost.. My over
all take is this is a beautiful property with a lot of smoke and
mirrors, reminds me of Vegas. I'm sure that I will stop there again thru
out next year, but with the poor pay tables only luck will bring on any
good payouts.

I appreciate those who don't study VP to play correctly or play full coin (which even a dodo like me has done on occasion to extend play). They make increase the house edge and the deposits that result in our pay outs.
