I played several hours of N/L Texas Holdem last nite at Foxwoods.....small table stakes of $2 - $5 blinds.     It was fairly busy and most of the tables were full during the time we were there from around 7 pm until after midnight......since I live a little more than an hour from the two Indian casinos (Foxwoods & mohegan) over the state line in Connecticut, after we were done playing were did not trek back home in the dead of night, but instead crashed at a friend's house about 20 minutes from foxwoods.....My brother and I played a little more than four hours total....he finished up about 200 bucks, but I myself finished up over $2,100!!!    while this was a very good night in total, it was not my biggest  TOTAL night's (or session's) haul, as on two different instances (one in Vegas in 2007 and once in Reno in 2005) I finished up over $4,000 and $4,800 respectively playing N/L holdem.      BUT.....at last night's session at Foxwoods, I had my single biggest N/L holdem ($2 / $5) take down of any single pot!   I started the hand with a stack of $470 (initial buy in was $500), and the table was 9 handed (9 players out of a possible 10 seats).......smallest stack was around $200, another stack was about $400 and I was third smallest ...... and the largest stack was over $1600 but there were two other players over $1200 as well, so a lot of TOTAL money was on the table for a $2 / $5 blind game.  The middle three stacks were between 500 and 800 bucks so this was actually one of the "richest tables" I ever sat at for a $2 - $5 blind game......I started the hand in the Big blind and I caught A K suited (hearts), a very good starting hand but dangerous since I was out of position as the big blind (I would act second, or possibly first  AFTER the flop which means I always start each round with LESS info than everyone else has.)     Anyhow, I wound up winning a pot of almost $1900 ($1880)!!!!    FIVE  players were in it at the end, three of us "all in" and there was a side pot of around 200 bucks since two of the BIG stacks were in the hand at the end.......I caught the nut flush with my starting hand of  AK suited:   the flop was 3(h)  7(h)  K(s) .... Turn card was (Qh)  and the River was the A(d) ......The reason I was able to pull off such a huge win had EVERYTHING to do with the way/sequence the cards fell;  my catching the nut flush on the TURN  instead of either the flop  or  the river, also was instrumental.     If  I FLOP the nut flush (meaning all three hearts show up on the flop)  then that scares away most of the action and I cannot build a huge pot......and if I do not see the fifth heart until the RIVER, then I might not be able to hang around with all the betting pushing me  "ALL IN"  with just a DRAW......so you see how "LUCK" can manifest itself, not just simply by WHAT cards you get,  but how when and WHERE those cards show up!!!!!    Still, the "What" was also huge, as the three big cards, the king, queen and the ace on the board were also instrumental in keeping players in the game.....if they do not catch those cards to give them strong hands, they fold and I do not build the pot.However....SKILL also showed itself in my play in that I played my hand and betting with just the right amount of daring and subtlety......truly it was a combination of the two and illustrates how they interact.     Cash game players are always beholden to the element of "luck" if they want to win MORE than a few bucks grinding it out......but "grinding" in and of itself requires skill and patience, and being able to remain in the game and NOT get felted, so that you are around if and when the BIG lucky hand shows up, well, that truly is the ultimate test of skill and patience to N/L holdem.Still, winning $1800+ in one pot is a rush, and knowing I had the win when that River card fell and was not either a heart in between the 3 and the 7 (giving a potential STRAIGHT flush to someone), nor was it a pairing of one of the existing cards on the board meaning someone COULD have a full house, it was better than hitting  a ROYAL!!!Anyone else have any recent (or distant) poker stories to tell??    ANY game (N/L holdem, or limit.....or Omaha.....or Stud.....or RAZZ etc.)  or any $$$$ level is welcome!

Wow! Its just like listening to Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten from "The World Poker Tour."    Does raking a pot from live poker count as a jackpot win from a gaming machine? Maybe I should consult my attornies?

My largest single hand VP win was a royal for $1199.75 at the Atlantis in Reno. My biggest VP hit was just a smidgen above that. Dealt QTAJ of hearts, 3x multiplier on 5c 5-play STP. Hit the K on the first and last hands for an even $1200.

I hit the Florida lotto last week for $327.50.  The biggest win in 10 years playing that damn game.  Does that count?
