Can long video poker playing sessions be fatal?

Post by alpax »

I know it appears on the news time to time as it has been going on since cybercafes originated, a person plays games on a computer for a long period of time (multiple days in a row) and dies from cardiac arrest.

Just recently another case

Has there been a fatality over too much video slot or video poker session at a casino? I know the most logical response is to take breaks, but during a point multiplier promotion, breaks will reduce the value. I might have read some people here can put in 10 hour sessions of video poker.

I still pull some marathon sessions even at my age, but you have to be careful. Most important is to stand and move around at least every hour. More often is better. I play standing quite often. Also stay hydrated. Get someone to watch the machine and take a quick break every now and then too. I also take the stairs whenever possible instead of the elevators. Been doing that for years. That said, anything can and does happen. Every day is a gift.

Has there been a fatality over too much video slot or video poker session at a casino? ........ I might have read some people here can put in 10 hour sessions of video poker.     I don't know about dying from too much VP, but have heard that some have died while at a VP machine. Some also had medical problems to begin with, being around too much smoke, bad heart, etc.      One fellow who died while playing was pretty well known as a regular VP player in Vegas.   Putting in 10 hour sessions?  I used to play that or more in one session and then immediately move to another machine and then another, each for 6-10 hours. Getting no sleep for 2 or more nights wasn't uncommon for me.   This was back in the late 80's and early 90's, and I eventually got tired of my eyes looking like fried eggs.   Funny how much longer my bankroll lasted and how many times it increased back then.
