...the political elites think they are better than us and do not need to follow the law.
The thing about being a member of the political and/or economic elite is that you, and your friends, get to say what the laws are and enact written or unwritten exceptions to them as needed. The law is only for those who have no powerful friends.
minn, you added 'economic elite' to my statement, which i largely agree with. but, even the rich have gone down, ala denis kozlowski (ceo who just got out of prison) and many others.the one group the almost never does time unless the crime is soooo obvious are the politically connected.

Ah yes...Kozlowski and the infamous gold shower curtain among other things. Unfortunately, that name and another US Surgical Corp brings back sour memories and proof that common stock can be more dangerous than a crooked rng in vp. Had to take out a separate life insurance policy to cover the losses suffered when USSC's stock went down and was acquired by Kozlowski's Co Tyco.

Jesse Jackson Jr. is a poster child for this. How can I fail to mention his wife too; an Ex-Alderwoman in the City of Chicago at the same time he was a U.S. Congressman.

jackson is good example, but the best has to be JON CORZINE. ex governor and ex senator from NJ and major money bundler for current POTUS. his company MF GLOBAL has missing money. in almost all other cases, this person would be in jail. yet, when he testified before congress, it was like old friends reunion.

No problem...since the Mrs is the beneficiary on the policy. As a side note, the former CEO of that company now 86 years old is the subject of a paternity suit. Imagine that...
