Another Cheap Strategy Royal

Post by FloridaPhil »

Made my weekly trip to Hard Rock Tampa today.   Played the Cheap Strategy for 5 hours and hit this pretty max coin Royal.  I took the photo with my phone while the counter was ticking.  Life is good....

Great camera work and what a wonderful view of that Royal! Thanks for sharing and congrats on being able to get back to adding on to the winner's gallery on the website.

Never seen that deuces paytable before, but WizardOfOdds strategy calculator states it returns 98.00% with optimal play and 97.99% with basic strategy. Probably need to use VPW to practice this special table.

Bally units sometimes have different paytables than IGT. The best returning VP machine in St. Louis is a Bally game actually. 8/5 Super Aces where the SF pays 50 instead of the usual 60 on IGT units. The SF reduction lowers the game from 99.94% to 99.84%. There is a different Joker Poker paytable too that's 99%+ on the same unit.

And 98% isn't bad for quarters in Florida.

Nice hit Phil!

There are only two of these machines at the Tampa Hard Rock.   All of the other video poker machines are Game King and have this pay schedule starting at 50 cents. The Game King quarter deuces games only pay 100 coins for the wild royal.  I found the two good machines scouting a few months ago.  One of them has given me at least one quad deuce on every trip for the last month.  Yesterday it gave me the royal. I sure hope they don't take it out!

So this place doesn't have "Airport Deuces" at 50c or higher? Because this isn't "Airport". This is one of those no-name schedules...lol

Airport pays 75 for quints instead of 60. I've never seen that exact paytable pictured on an IGT machine, ever.

And FYI, McCarran airport offers 94.82% deuces at quarters now. That "Airport" name is pretty damn old.

I see that VPFree2 reports that the Illinois Deuces or pseudo NSU (the alternative names I've heard of to Airport Deuces 800-200-25-15-9-4-4-3-2-1) that the paytable is offered at 50cents up to $100! I think the system disregards the 50 cent denomination, but the average loss between that Bally's 25 cent table and the 50 cent Game King (common) are roughly the same at max bet (with the 50 cent losing 27 cents more per 1000 hands).

Unfortunately I only have access to Action Gaming and IGT video poker machines, so I cannot play the deviations that Aristocrat and Bally's machines may have.

I have not been to the airport lately, but it is fascinating to hear about that Deuces pay table being so atrocious to a point where it does not deserve to carry the "Airport" distinction. Strange thing is that the SouthPoint Casino Owner/Operator Michael Gaughan has the rights and operates the gaming machines at the airport. Probably the paytables are purposely least attractive to a point where people will have to bail out and go for a quick run to his main casino (happens to be the one of the nearest to the airport) to play at the place with over 10,000 games that pay 99% or better.

I'm not sure what the definition of Airport Deuces exactly is these days.   Traveling around as we do, we see a lot of Deuces pay tables. I avoid games that pay 3 for a full house as it doesn't work well with my Cheap Strategy. The most common quarter game is 100-WR, 60-5K, 4-FH, 4-4K.  The better game is the same except it pays 125 for a WR.  It is common for the casinos to play around with the 5-K.  I have seen it as low as 50. The best paying DW games we have ever played are in Black Hawk Colorado.  We have never been able to play the elusive "full pay deuces" anywhere.  Some day if we feel like testing our blood pressure limit, we may go to Vegas just to see if it really exists.

Nice! I had 4 to RF 5 times last night (on triple play) and couldn't connect on any.
