pretty obvious the best strategy was not employed here. so what, it is their money. the bigger point is there are better ways to offer constructive assistance, instead of acting like such an a......- i won't say it.  if every poster who states something or posts a picture is going to be demeaned for not playing correctly, there will likely be less posters. then you will have an entire site of math folks. golly, that sounds like fun.  some people just play for the fun of it, this is their entertainment, this is what they do as a couple, it is part of their socialiation. sounds pretty healthy to me.Â
I guess I should just stop posting pictures and change my screen name to DaTedlark.

even if you were winning and having fun, there is someone who would find fault.

Or you could take a break and have your cousin Whatalark post for awhile... ...See, my memory isn't totally gone yet.

This was a great thread until.......ANyway, thanks to wildman for sharing this story and for starting such a entertaining thread......Wildman, when you say you play "poker", does that mean real live poker? What do you play? just curious....We all know who Bob Dancer is by now and what he does, and what he believes, etc. We also know generally how he posts and the tact and tone he usually takes......while I do not personally have a problem with anything anyone chooses to do with his/her money, I also can agree with some of what Bob says with respect to people doing allegedly foolish things when a clearly better less foolish alternative is staring them in the face that will give them the same "fun" or entertainment they claim to be their real true goal.See, what Bob is getting it is an unconfortable truth that even myself has trouble reconciling: WINNING is indeed one of the "GOALS" of playing VP (or anything in a casino), and winning is itself a lot of fun. Therefore I often do not "buy" when I listen to people ramble on and on about how all the money they lose is for entertainment and therefore its no big deal, etc.I have not won in AC at VP for some time now, and even though I am going to AC for several reasons BESIDES gambling,I really do want to win when I play, and when I perceive the results to be as crappy and seemingly skewed as they have been, well then that is why I gripe. I would be far more entertained and fun-infused if I hit royals and four of a kinds with the frequency that DaTedlark does in his imaginary world of make believe. It's that simple......But I do not do self-defeating stuff like play less than max coin or play games that I do not know the perfect strategy, etc.

Um DaBurglar I stopped into Hollywood Casino in Joliet tonight to spin off some free play and low and behold up popped AWAK on TDB. I can show you my atm deposit slip if you STILL think I am living in your dreamland.
As for you stating that you "do not do self-defeating stuff" is so far from the truth you'd need to use the Hubble telescope to see it.
You said that you have not won in AC at VP for some time now AND YET YOU CONTINUE TO PLAY? This, to me, is self-defeating.

notes you have a good point here, as I am guilty of bringing up paytables all the time when offering my congrats to the big hit stories from Tedlark, billyjoe, Lucky Larry, butchp, FloridaPhil, and such. It does bring up negativity when a player gets a sense of joy of hitting big, negativity does cause unnecessary vibe.
Every player is different in terms of access to games available, bankroll to play video poker with or without respect to financial being, betting habits/system.
I do see a ton of wins from 9/5 DDB which returns at 97.87% with optimal play. The 2.13% expected loss is hard to overcome with bounceback mailer offers and the casino club cashback/comp points, but some people can withstand it, I know cannot so I should not keep saying "not even paytable X can stop you from winning".

alpax I play video poker for the enjoyment of playing video poker. If I were a serious player then I would obviously only play games that have a return and pay schedules much higher and better than those I currently play. Granted the wins that I get are nice but they only add to the enjoyment. I am a firm believer in the art of positive thinking, whether some people think its a bunch of hogwash or not. It works for me and if it helps me feel satisfied when playing, then so be it. On St. patricks Day last night when I was playing at Hollywood Joliet before I hit the AWAK I hit small aces. I was dealt a pair of aces and after keeping them I hit draw and as the hands were coming up I just kept saying in my mind: four aces, four aces, four aces, and up popped the small aces. Right now I'm getting about $300.00 a week in freeplay from Hollywood Joliet and if I am in the neighborhood then I would be a fool not to take advantage of this opportunity. Good luck to you.

alpax, i hope you do not think i was referring to you, it was directed to the resident vegas expert. i find his comments offensive and he uses his expertise as a weapon, instead of a helpful tool for others. there was a post that we should only play VP to win, that the entertainment value is meaningless. i disagree. does one only play golf to shoot under par, does one go bowling only if they can roll a 300, of couse not. playing VP is not how i make my living, if it was, i would have never started, the odds are against you. i wish i had access to the best paytables, but i do not. either i accept what is available and adjust my play to those circumstances or i do something else. this doesn't mean i will accept whatever the casino puts in front of me. i stopped going to AC years ago because i would no longer accept the conditions they offered.

I am guilty as charged when neglecting the reasons people play video poker and what recreational play is all about.
A major reason I play video poker is that it can be played at a lower loss expectation than other games at the casino. But knowing more now than I did in the past, I also do enjoy the game much more now.
