The best video poker machines at Maryland Live are located at the back of the casino to the right of the buffet by the smokers balcony.They have BETTER pay tables than the bar top machines at the 2 bars PLUS if you up your bet to 50 cent or a dollar the pay tables go up slightly.If you like pick em poker there are also some bally machines back there that have pick em and other games but they look like slot machines but are multi play games.

doesn't maryland have some outrageous tax on casino net revenue?? that would affect what they can pay out.

Yes, for slots/VP they are 67% of adjusted gross revenue. One of the highest rates in the country. Nevada's rate is about 10% of Maryland's (the lowest in the country I believe at 6.75%).

thanks for getting accurate info. i have been trying to make the point that these taxes must be having an impact on the payouts casinos offer. the government is getting more and more involved in private industry, including my own..financial. but, i cannot think of another business outside of tobacco, where the taxes are so onerous.

Yeah, the casino only gets to keep only one dollar of three that they win from slot/VP players in Maryland. That's very rough on any business.
And they probably have realized that offering 8/5 DDB (3.21% house edge) instead of 9/6 DDB (1.02% house edge) doesn't cut the average coin-in of the machine by a factor of three either, so they'll make more money in the end by offering blah paytables.
