Some Things About "Old Vegas"
Hey, I'm one of the first to mention how I love the evolution and I marvel at the sights of "New Vegas" eye popping free shows, a la Bellagio "Dancing Waters", "valcano eruptions", etc...but....I truly miss the oldie but goodie paid attractions like like "dinner and show" of the likes of Dean Martin at the MGM....Yep, I know that the location no longer exists, nor does Dean Martin....but I truly miss the ambiance of "old vegas" and the shows, etc...just sayin....

I wish I could have seen "old Vegas", The "new Vegas" seemed real cool when I first got there but after a couple days I was ready to leave. It's like a freak show out there with everyone trying to out do the other nutjob, if I stayed out there too long I'd probably end up holding a sign begging for money myself, "wife got a sex change and left me for best friend who was gay".

ko,1 of the reasons i go to vegas during the week is to avoid all the nutjobs that show up on weekends.i try to stay off the strip as soon as it gets dark regardless of the day.

i saw something in new vegas a few years ago, i doubt you would ever see in old vegas. i am not making this up. i am walking the strip playing a couple of different casinos. come to an intersection and need to take the elevated escalator (i think these are so cool, being outside). i get to the top and we have all seen folks holding cardboard signs asking for money. well, here is this young guy, looking pretty wasted, holding a sign saying, 'you can kick me in the balls for $5'.

He is either getting desperate or is a new nutcase. Last time I was there I saw one with a sign wanting $20 to be kicked in the nuts. In either case I will be on the look out when we go back in a couple of weeks.

You know as many drunk folks I saw while walking the strip I just about bet the dude makes a decent living taking groin kicks.

I too miss the "old" vegas, but for me, "OLD" means circa 1992 thru 1997.....I honestly feel vegas was at optimum balance in 1999 right after Bellagio opened and PAris and Venetian....they should have frozen building at that point! Everything built after the year 2000 was total greed and gluttony run amok......seriously, the place is just too full of those behemoth strip properties!I miss being able to walk the strip without running the risk of getting sidetracked or shunted into someplace you have no desire to go, or even getting outright LOST! I used to love going from one end of the strip to the other on a warm summer night....now, forget it.The city used to have a vibe to it, now it is either a constant ROAR that assaults your senses and leaves you with a headache, or you are so overwhelmed you almost do not see anything, its like your senses just shut down.

I guess I believe "Old Vegas" could be a relative term to any fond memory of what once was and is missed by them.
I haven't been to Vegas in over 5 years, but I have to admit, even back then I couldn't help but notice that my beloved Strip and my most frequented properties seemed less than safe and it was very sad to see.
Still, all in all.....If I had a choice of vacations, there would be no contest....and I would still choose staying at Paris and visiting my fave hangouts.
