Re: She was hot and I was not
alpax, i hope you do not think i was referring to you, it was directed to the resident vegas expert. i find his comments offensive and he uses his expertise as a weapon, instead of a helpful tool for others.Â
I agree with what Phil said, the Vegas expert is usually condescending when expressing a point based on past posts I've seen, particularly interactions with billyjoe. I do learn some good advice from the expert.
The only positive thing I can I think of is that it might drive the point across more effectively, but I am not sure if it was meant to be a teaching technique for the point to stick in a persons mind.
Maybe they deserve each other!
He may be an expert on video poker, but he sure could use a lesson on manners and personal relationships. There is no reason to attack someone's family because he thinks they made a bad decision about video poker. My wife and I enjoy playing video poker together and I am very grateful for this. There are lots of things in life more important that what cards you pick on a slot machine...

This was a great thread until.......ANyway, thanks to wildman for sharing this story and for starting such a entertaining thread......Wildman, when you say you play "poker", does that mean real live poker? What do you play? just curious....
DB no 7 card for me, its to slow, same goes for Blackjack can't do it. I have played Let It Ride maybe 3 times in the last 5 years. Not many hands, it's just to slow of play for me. I like to play 600 to 800 hands an hour, playing live poker for 5 mins. is about all I can stand. lol

alpax, i hope you do not think i was referring to you, it was directed to the resident vegas expert. i find his comments offensive and he uses his expertise as a weapon, instead of a helpful tool for others.  there was a post that we should only play VP to win, that the entertainment value is meaningless. i disagree. does one only play golf to shoot under par, does one go bowling only if they can roll a 300, of couse not. playing VP is not how i make my living, if it was, i would have never started, the odds are against you.  i wish i had access to the best paytables, but i do not. either i accept what is available and adjust my play to those circumstances or i do something else. this doesn't mean i will accept whatever the casino puts in front of me. i stopped going to AC years ago because i would no longer accept the conditions they offered.
A true "expert" would offer guidance on how to best play, and maximize your return, on less than positive VP paytables, instead of ridiculing people that are trying their best at what is offered to them at their local casino. Maybe he just doesn't know.
From what I have read on this Forum, FloridaPhil offers more meaningful suggestions than the "resident Vegas VP expert".

Yeah but for some reason VegasPhil doesn't have the same ring as FloridaPhil.

EightypercentTed might stick. I would take FiftyfiftyOlds. ...... .....As a matter of fact, my good friend has a 50 Olds that was his dad's with beautiful dark green paint and only 29,000 original miles.

I lurk on the vpFREE forums and there is a good amount of attacks directed towards Bob that are to a much greater extent than what we see here with regards to relationships.
Bob occasionally shares about his relationship in the weekly articles on the Las Vegas Advisor (LVA) website. It is unique where his significant other is understanding of what he does for a living. The most recent article being that they celebrate major holidays (e.g. Valentines Day/Christmas) ahead of time so that the actual holiday is reserved for Double Point day play. Probably it will not fly with most couples on average. That and the fact that gaming opportunities in the Vegas jurisdiction being superior might be a reason Bob and the rest of us do not see eye to eye.

I have no problem with anything Bob Dancer says about video poker. He is the world's expert on the subject and I will gladly give him that credit. What I can't understand is his demeaning attitude toward recreational players. I assume most of the people who buy his books and attend his classes are the same people he seems to have so much disdain for. I would think he would have more class than to make horrible comments about someone's wife just because she made a single coin $5 bet.

Agree re: Dancer's VP expertise. We have been using VP for Winners for over a decade. However, Bob took a swipe at me because I happen to agree with an outlook regarding gambling as a form of entertainment articulated by John Scarne. I never said anything else about Scarne's gambling expertise or lack there of (depending upon one's perspective). You can agree to disagree without bashing someone.

There are more ways to make a million dollars than sticking your money in a slot machine. If that was my claim to fame, I'm not sure I would be all that happy about it. Selling the idea that gambling can be a profitable enterprise is something that I wouldn't want on my conscience or etched on my tombstone. I'm done with this subject. It has nothing to do with the real world of video poker and frankly it's boring.
