Re: Atlantic City gaming going extinct?
drove to AC wednesday and traffic was pretty good considering it's jersey shore season.left my house around 10am and was in my room at 12:30pm.didn't get my first quad until thurday afternoon and no bonus quads at all.losing trip overall but good to be away.friday's drive home was a breeze too but the traffic southbound was pretty heavy.my neighbor went down this morning for the weekend and it took almost 5 hours!no weekends in AC for me.did not see any "harvard" types thank god.chatty,i couldn't get anywhere near the progressives at ballys.

Revel, Showboat and Trump Plaza shuttered since the last post. Talk about a sea change. The rest are going great guns. I predict a thriving summer for the fierce survivors.

i am very interested in the recent dicussions about AC. used to go every month for years, but quit a couple of years ago. machines never paid, security was poor and the casinos were near empty, even on a friday afternoon. but, now there are comments that things may be improving, maybe due to some properities closing. i hope i am not just hearing the good news, because i might give it another try. if others are having bad experiences, i would be interested in that info also.

There has been a good amount of "bounce back" for SOME of the remaining AC properties in terms of the closure of AC CLUB, Showboat, Trump Plaza and Revel.....during my last visit several weeks ago I heard a Resorts Pit Boss stating that estimates so far are 70-75% of the customers who frequented the shuttered properties are now frequenting the remaining 8 casinos, so that is good for the individual properties who managed to catch some of that (You can extrapolate exactly WHO is benefitting and by how much by simply comparing numbers published each month in the PRESS of AC, and comparing figures from the same period(s) from last year, etc etc) HOWEVER, it is not so good for AC as a whole (hole?) that as much as 25% of the business from the four shuttered casinos simply VANISHED from AC.......but again, these numbers were what I heard from one single Resorts Employee (hardly a convincing sample size), so I strongly suggest waiting a few more months to see exactly how the numbers flesh out and see what happens this summer during the busy season, before drawing any strong conclusions as to whether AC is improving, holding steady or declining.I know right now though, as far as the BOARDWALK is concerned, the summer season will start out with a few big gaping holes in certain stretches due primarily to the closure of Trump Plaza (which is situated in just about the absolute BEST spot on the boardwalk in terms of proximity and position......I mean, come on! when you exit off the AC expressway coming into AC the Trump PLAZA is RIGHT SMACK in front of you and it is soooo easy to simply drive straight forward into their establishment!!!! what a waste..... and of course for foot traffic, going in either direction, the Plaza is/was in the best spot!) Add to this the fact that the Revel and SHOWBOAT are gone and with them, any and all foot traffic extending PAST the Steel pier going North, and you have a serious dampening effect on foot traffic for the coming summer months. (Note: That is why closing the TAJ would be extremely disastrous, because then any and all remaining business and traffic associated with the Steel pier and the taj would be gone, which in turn would KILL Resorts which site right next door and depends heavily in the summer to capture such foot traffic, so essentially the ENTIRE boardwalk heading NORTH from BAllys-Park Place is in jeopardy of disappearing!)

Borgata was packed yesterday. Surprising for a Thursday in March. The last few times down they have been busy. Good for them, but it will be hard to get on the good paytables this summer for sure. More golf is on the horizon.

no proof for what i am about to say, but what i have noticed is that the first step casinos make is to lower the returns on the games, then business drops off and they react by increasing promotions. so, they make extra money on everyone who plays and try to get some customers back, by offering a small amount of the reduced payouts, by giving it back in a promotion. kind of like the government. jefferson wrote, beware the politican who attempts to bribe you, with your own money.

I imagine that they calculate with a pretty good degree of accuracy the number of invitee's who won't show up to claim a give away. Jefferson was way ahead of his time.

Which casino gave the bikes away. I didn't get anything from the Borgata about a bicycle giveaway.
