Isn't it 125 for a dirty royal and 1,000 for 4 deuces? (max bet)

Yeah, 1000 for quad deuces and 125 for a "wild royal".

If you use the search function at the top of almost every screen I think you'll find it has been explained previously. Or, see:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variance

In general, it provides a simple means of stating the likelihood that you will deviate from the mean. That is, the higher the variance the larger the swings. Many people like high variance games because they typically have large jackpots and if you hit them you can win big (like DDB). People who like low variance games (like JOB) do so because you are unlikely to have large losses in a single session.

I just started playing VP and my last trip to Vegas I was checking pay onMANY machines.  I found almost nothing but 9-4-4-3-2-1 (option 2) on single play.  Had I not researched where FP was available I would probably have given up trying to find something decent.  I have a sheet of pay tables in between (Wizard of Odds) but have never found anything to match a single one.  Probably the new trend in machines is to award a table that has not even been studied. Bet they won't pay too well!
