When the timing is off and you know it.

Post by Lucky Larry »

Returned from a weekend trip to Golden Nugget and then Coushatta. No big hits for either of us at GN but enjoyed being there with two of our daughters and SiL's following one of our grandson's weddings.

Sunday we went to Coushatta to play the better odds. Is wasn't long before I realized that my timing was really off. Since I generally only play stable Ugly Deuces and DWBonus I have a good feel for how the hands should return certain holds. When you hold 3-4 to a straight flush on DWB and get no SF in 25-50 hand, I know I'm in trouble. On top of that over two days I had only caught one dealt hand of value. It didn't matter if I changed games, machines, took a break, heck I even checked my bio-rthyms.

Luckily, Sweet C caught one of those rare holding 3 deuces and catching 4 quads out of 15 hands to help bail us out.    Maybe she'll feel sorry for me and bank roll me on our next trip.

Well you got to spend some quality time with people you care about Double L, and that's worth quite alot. As for the gambling; better luck next time.

I know how you feel LL. The other night at Mohegan Sun, I played regular deuces wild and bonus both for 5 hours. No wild royals, no deuces quads of course, and only 1 5 of a kind. Since I hadn't been to Foxwoods in a year and was about to lose the few points I did have there, the wife and I decided to go over from Mohegan in the middle of the night and cash in the few bucks we had at the 1 dollar for 2 points rate.
When I put my card in, I found that I had 5 bucks in free play. I found the lone 100 play penny machine with terrible odds and after a few hands on deuces, decided to play joker kings with a bad paytable, but paid 20 for 4 of a kind. Now why couldn't I do something like this at Mohegan on quarters. I turned the 5 bucks at Foxwoods into 40 without getting anything bigger that a quad. Back to Mohegan for breakfast, nap in a room with a beautiful view, and home to catch up on the folks situation since my brother who was folks sitting for part of the day had to go back home.

That's the best part of life. On the gambling side, I somewhere heard something like.... "there is always next time".

Congratulations olds,

We loved our trip to that area and playing Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Hope to get back up there again someday. If we do we'll make it a point to meet up. In the meantime keep up the posts and we'll enjoy FW/MS vicariously through your posts.

Don't waste time with such conclusions as "I haven't hit any of these good hands for more than xxxx tries, so I know I'll never hit one today." Such thinking is nonsense. The last 200 hands is a very poor predictor of what's going to happen in the next 200 hands. Sometimes it'll be better. Sometimes it'll be worse. You never know until you play that additional 200-hand set.If you really believe "bad follows bad" and "good follows good," go ahead and change to a $100 machine right after you hit a quad at quarters. Since "good follows good," clearly you're a lock! Most people recognize such thinking is nonsense. But they still act like they know the future because of what happened in the immediate past.Bob

+1

I am always amazed at some of the random beliefs that gamblers embrace. . . such as, this machine has already paid me xxx dollars today and so it won't hit again, OR this machine hasn't paid me higher than a flush over xxx tries, so now I must sit there for nine hours because it "owes" me a big win.

I must sit there for nine hours because it "owes" me a big win.I fall victim to this sometimes out of pure frustration and anger. But no use having the machine eat another $20. If I fall behind the amount of a JOB quad, $31, it's usually too late!
