Strategy for playing a progressive poker

Post by KimLuck »

New to this site, and love it! I have read the articles on the site and have been educating myself on video poker and practicing on a program, etc.

I recently went to a casino and they had a video poker progressive. It was getting high and suspected it was about to hit and it did, not by me though, but it was during the time I was there, and I was not in the area at the time.

My question is, do you change your strategy when you are playing a deuces wild progressive? To win the progressive you had to have a Royal Flush and no deuces. While I was playing before it hit, I had been dealt 3 4 to a royal flushes.

yes you change your strategy. It depends on: 1) what the initial pay schedule is and 2) how high the progressive is. If you play the game a lot, you should probably work out a strategy for a royal of 8000 coins, 10000 coins, 12000 coins, etc., using one of the many computer trainers on the market, and use the one closest to what you actually find.If you're a more advanced player, consider getting Frank Kneeland's "The Secret World of Video Poker Progressives."Bob

There are two worlds in video poker; recreational and professional play.  Professional players like Bob Dancer seek out big progressives and have fine tuned strategies to take full advantage of them.  Recreational players should understand these strategies are designed to give you the best chance of hitting a royal at all cost.  Using big progressive strategy will cost you more if you don't hit the royal.  I once met a couple where the wife used big progressive strategy all the time and the man played normally.  He told me his wife lost more money in the long run, but she did hit more royals.  My own wife likes to take all Ace Tens and she claims she does pretty well with it.  I think it's because she hit two royals in one weekend a few years ago doing this and she's hooked.

One of the royals I hit this past weekend was when I held ace ten. My bad.Outsanding! You must be Irish, as your luck is remarkable. Anything can happen in the topsy turvy world of VP.  You certainly bump up the RF probability. I forget by how much, but not enough to outweigh the conservative hold.
