I think she meant she had 2 deuces since she said she tossed the 5 and 6 of hearts. That is a close play, but I think in that scenario, I would have done the same thing. Of course like you said, if she did have a dealt straight flush with 3 deuces, always toss the straight flush and go for the deuces. Five of a kine a different story however, though some will toss that too.

I can't think of any deuces wild game where, dealt a straight flush containing three deuces, the intelligent play would be keeping the straight flush.

I've reread the post a few times and it does seem she was dealt three deuces 2225h6h, and elaborately stated just the 4th deuce came out. But you are right you always toss the straight flush if you are dealt 3 deuces.

For NSU 25-16-10-4-4-3-2-1 and Airport 25-15-9-4-4-3-2-1, you hold 5oaK and Wild Royal Flush. Toss the Straight Flush.

For Ugly Ducks 20-12-10 or 20-12-9 or 20-10-8, you hold just the Wild Royal Flush. Toss the Straight Flush and 5oaK.

I went to Video Poker for Winners for the 25-16-13-4-3-2-2-1 table, and you still hold 5oaK and Wild Royal Flush, toss the Straight Flush.

For sure, if I was playing $5 deuces wild video poker, I would have these correct plays thoroughly embedded in my brain.

You guys are correct in that the 3 deuces were dealt. I mis read it myself. Regardless, in the long run, if I remember correctly, you keep the 5 of a kind when dealt 3 deuces and toss the straight flush. I have been tempted many times to toss the 5 of a kind too since it is only 15 for 1, but in the end, I always keep the 5 of a kind. I forget how often 3 deuces are dealt in a 5k hand session, but it seems to me 3 times is about right. What drives me nuts is getting dozens and dozens of chances with 2 deuces never connecting, then end up getting dealt the deuces quads or get them only holding 1 deuce. To add insult to injury, I usually get just my money back when holding 2 deuces. Still my favorite game though.

I definitely agree, at those $5 stakes, I would make sure I have the strategy and its penalty situations down cold. I would not play if I have doubts about a hold, since mistakes are way more costly.

I have not played enough video poker, but I would understand the fallacy of going for it if you are winning and settling for a decent win if given if you are down.

e.g. keeping the full house of aces in a double or triple bonus game if down a lot, rather than holding onto just the aces as the optimal play.

I think the simple rule to remember is that holding the 3 Deuces in most Deuces Wild games have a expected return of at least 14 units. If there is anything that wins more than 14 units, hold onto the entire hand with 3 deuces in place.

alpax if I'm dealt trip aces I will always go for the fourth ace when playing DDB or TDB no matter how much I may be down. But every player is different.

Ultimate X with the "Colorado Deuces" 25/16/13/4/3/2 paytable.

Here is the multiplier independent strategy for that:

Vman, Thanks for posting that strategy page. I was looking for a DW ULT X strategy on WOO and couldn't find one.
What sort of strategy adjustments for the 20/12/10/4/4/3/2/1 pay table on DW Ult X would there be compared to Colorado DW?

One of my responses on this topic I stated next time I will probably keep the straight flush, king high. "Next time" came yesterday at Sunset Station. Based on the feedback of my question I kept the straight flush and it was a no brainer. I really just wanted to say thank you again to everyone for your feedback and I greatly appreciate the opportunity to get help from you all. Good luck, and thanks again!    PJ

Even though it is a King high straight flush, next time happens in 1 in 647940 hands just like a dealt royal.

Kudos to you for keeping the Straight Flush and winning 250 credits this time!
