Friday night trip

Post by olds442jetaway »

I just read Notes post about his trip and had to post this as it is almost a mirror image of hit trip in a good way.
After a long day of Dr. appts with the folks and a very long school day for the wife, we finally made our way up to Mohegan Sun and got there a couple of hours before midnight. Both starving from being so busy during the day, we decided to hit the buffet, but watch a little on what we ate so as not to feel like a lead lump for the rest of the trip. The Mrs. had her usual salad, soup, and fish dinner and I opted to take it easy and hit the raw seafood bar and some light Asian food. Both were excellent.
We played together a few minutes on the new Asian animated machines I have been posting about and covered out tips for our favorite waiter in the buffet and enough for the rest of the evening as well.
We found a couple of just installed nickel Winning Streak machines next to each other and played them for a few minutes. I didn't care for the game and the Mrs. thought it was just OK. We ended up about even. The did have 8/5 which isn't too bad for a nickel machine on job, but I was disappointed there was no deuces wild option in the more games section.
We finally got down to business and settled in for a long evening of playing. Couldn't get a room at a reasonable rate, so the overnight kits and blankets if needed were ready in the car.
The Mrs. did OK and ended up about even hitting at one point on DDB Aces without a kicker. I split my time between the nickel Multi Strike machine on Double Bonus Deuces Wild and got down a couple of hundred before hitting a nice Wild Royal on the top line and a couple of 5 of a kinds on upper lines as well. This brought me up a hindred around 3 AM. Not content with that which I should have been, I proceeded to blow that plus 200- on the Double Down Stud machine which I found moved in the non smoking room.
Fast forward to an early breakfast, clean up break, nap in the car, and a beautiful morning sunrise and back to another couple of hours of play before heading home.
Skipping the details, I planted myself on the lone remaining 3 cent spin poker machine and played Bonus Deuces Wild with five lines on my Martingale Clone method. I was holding my own not losing much, but had to progress up first to 5 cents game, then 10 cents game and finally a 20 cents game all on the same machine.
I managed to hit Deuces with a kicker on two lines twice very close together and ended up 1500- to the good side for the trip. Nice easy ride home with OK traffic and ended up with a really nice trip for a change. The room would have been nice, but we have some free mid week ones coming up so looking forward to those once school gets out.

olds, really glad to hear about your postive trip. along with being a little luckier this year, the adjustments we both made seem to be paying off so far. what was nice, was your whole experience was positive. food, company, travel and winning, we all need that once in a while.. what's with sleeping in the car, you and ted? i wish i could do that, just cannot sleep in any place other than a bed.

Nice haul. Takes money to make money. I would have gone bust in short order. Good to know VP works out with deep pockets!

Sleeping in the car is for those rare occasions when they want too much money like three hundred bucks or more for just a couple of hours sleep. The days of comp rooms are over on Friday and Saturday nights even with the amount of play I give them. At least we get to see some nice sunrises once in awhile. After a long day and then 8 hours straight of vp, it is pretty easy to catch a nap with comfortable seats. Worst thing to do is get behind the wheel when you are over tired.
Unfortunately, with the Martingale clone system I play, I am not playing Phil's method, I need about five hundred bucks even starting on a three cent machine. Sometimes is does go bust especially if you do not back it down when you hit even something minor. Since for most of the hands not counting the Royal we are looking for something good to come around every five thousand hands or more, many sessions are long and you run out of time sometimes. My biggest mistakes over the years are two. First, trying to play more aggressive when you are running out time and second not quitting when you make a little or are close to even after a long session.
As most of us know, when we get close back to even, they seem to just suck your bankroll dry in a split second when it may have taken you many hours of work to just get to that point. I'm working on fixing these mistakes, but it is hard to break lifetimes of those patterns.
The best way to play this method is to just cut your losses for the trip when you run out of time, but on your next trip, start your bets where you left off on the last trip. I can't tell you how many times something like this has happened.
You have progressed up to a bet level equal to what you need to be even if you hit Deuces quads. You are say at a bet of twelve quarters. You run out of time. Next session you start out at 5 quarters and seem to hit the deuces right away, but you would have needed to hit them at twelve to be even for the last trip. I just don't hit Royals anymore period, so I don't use this method based on hitting one Royal. If I did hit them as they should every forty thousand hands or so, this would be a cheaper system to play. I like Phil's method too and use it on low budget trips. I just seem to have a lot of trouble getting consecutive wins on any game for more than one or two hands straight. Lots of flip flops too when I try Phil's system. Maybe it would work better in another casino.

olds,
Great story. Tell the Mrs. thanks for her efforts - "the long school day" whatever they are.
