Anyone know what the average # of hands per hour for a veteran?700 to 1,000 per hour. I play at around 750 but I think Shadowman plays more around 900 if memory serves me correctly.

It depends on the machine and the difficulty of the game. Playing FPDW or JOB on a fast machine I can easily manage 1000 hph. Playing OEJs, I'm more in the 700-800 hph range. Of course, those damn hand pays always slows my average.

What is your estimate of how many mistakes you are making at that rate with your personal planned strategy? Anyone besides me ever confuse deal with draw?

Mistakes are usually a function of distractions. I estimate my mistakes cost me between .05 and .2 depending on the difficulty and/or my knowledge of the game. I subtract this value from the overall "edge" when I look at what I want to play. I have confused the deal with the draw on rare occasions.
When I head back to Vegas soon I will set up a schedule based on point multipliers, CB, BB, ER, etc. This stuff always changes a little bit while I'm gone in the summer. I keep a spreadsheet with everything in it and compute a monthly expectation. Sounds like a lot of work but it it's not that difficult and I do consider it my part-time job.
I'm looking forward to heading back. I get bored easily and by this time I'm wanting something different. Same thing will happen next April.

I play at about 850 hands per hour on single line play.
Shadowman wrote in the previous message ago that mistakes are caused by distractions, which is certainly true. They're also caused by trying to play too fast. Mistakes are also caused by fatigue, so I rarely play more than 3 hours at a stretch - my average used to be about 5 hours. So nowadays I usually cut and run after no more than 3 hours, whether I'm ahead, behind, or breakeven. I have that option since I live within a reasonable driving distance of the local casinos.
My mistakes typically happen at the start of a session, in the first few minutes of play. Just getting settled in, and haven't got the "focus" yet. I need to work on that. I don't keep records or estimates of how much my mistakes cost me, though - impressive, SM!

I take my laptop with me when I'm staying at a casino. However, I use an index card that I keep with me (inside shirt pocket or billfold) while I'm actually gambling. I then transfer the results to my laptop at my convienence. I also do this when I just visit a casino during the day and leave my laptop at home.

how do you count the number of hands you play while in the casino.
I use a clicker, just like a coach uses in baseball for a pitch count.

I use a clicker, just like a coach uses in baseball for a pitch count. That has to slow you WAY down "details" (talking about a clicker). I get my counts from practice sessions on VPW and don't worry about it in the casino. However, I will say that most of the machines in the casino allow a person to play faster than can be accomplished on the computer simulators where you are using either the keyboard or mouse to make your "hold" selections. I use the buttons on a casino VP machine much as I do with the keyboard when "touch typing". Pretty fast.I think there might be another way though. Some (most?) of the VP machines have a count down ticker to keep track of the comp points you are earning. If you observe what you start with, note the amount of time you've played and factor in the rate that the player's club awards comp points, you could pretty much nail the exact casino rate. I mean, they are going by coin-in I suppose but that equates indirectly to the number of hands played factored by the denomination. I've never done this but think that it could be done.
