Bumping up to High Stakes Video Poker

Post by scoland »

Does anyone ever take a chance and play $5.00 X 5 VP? That $25.00 per hand...I've done it a couple times and it's quite a rush, especially when hitting 4 2's and a kicker...for $4,000.00.

Not such a rush when you lose 4,000

I've never played at higher than the $2.00 level and I'm most comfortable at the .25 level. As case pointed out: losing $4,000.00 can come pretty quick at that level so you need to be prepared by either having a big enough bankroll to ride it out or you need to really know when its time to quit.

For me to play at the $5.00 level I would most likely only do it in Las Vegas.

I can understand though, the rush of hitting a $4,000.00 jackpot because I've felt it. But I've also felt the sting of a couple thousand dollar loss too and the welt left by that sting hangs around for a while.

I take most of my pot shots using the Cheap Strategy at the $5 level.   Starting with $20 gives me at least 4 shots before I have to move on.  I've hit a number of $1,000 quad deuces doing this and a few $625 wild royals.  In my dreams I hit a $20,000 Royal, but it hasn't happened in real life so far.  I would never play straight max coins at that level or above.   Too risky for my blood...

It all depends upon your personal strategy.  I prefer the Cheap Strategy at $5 because it gives me a better chance of a $5K quad deuce.   I have more faith in that happening than trying to hit a max coin $1 royal for $4,000 every 40,000 hands.

Depends....on your bank roll. While I may get up to @25/hand on multi-hand quarters I find it hard to play $25/hand single hand since its all or nothing and I wouldn't play it for less than full pay.   However; I've watched players play $90/hand Spin and two regulars at Coushatta play $125/hand 100 play quarters for hours. Both start with and keep $1K in the machine.   One of these players has no difficulty moving to $1VP and I've watched him on several occasions play 60-80 hands @$5/hand for a substantial number of hands when he's on a roll. Simple Quads become hand pays and one night I watched him cash out $78K in small tickets ("kick outs" when the machine goes over $1,250) not counting his hand pays.

Sweet C and I did once play a session of $5/$25 VP. The week of Sweet C's birthday in 2007 we went to the Isle of Capri Lake Charles. She caught the Progressive $RF just 10-15 minutes after another woman hit the same Progressive on the same machine. While waiting for her hand pay she caught 4 Aces and then caught 4 Deuces putting her up $7K. We went to L'Auberge du Lac and her roll continued when she caught another $1 AWAK. You have to understand Sweet C loves to gamble but can't stand the nervous tension of playing big money but we decided to try $5/25 VP. She caught one quad but the money loss on non hit hands was killing her so we cashed out with a great birthday story/present.
