First Hand Pay

Unfortunately it wasn't for me. I've been going to my local casino since it opened. On my last visit, the gentleman sitting beside me hit a royal while playing TDB on a quarter machine. I heard his machine play something I had never heard before and it locked up even though he wasn't at the $1200 level for taxes.

The casino has been TITO since it opened and I visit once or twice a month, admittedly usually at non peak times. This was the first hand pay I've seen since I've been going there. Says something about the chances of hitting a full coin Royal Flush.

Congratulated the gentleman and he told me that he had quit playing higher denomination machines because of the tax issue.

While the technician was counting out his winnings, they announced the winners of the drawing for $100 free play and he also won this. When you're hot you're hot!

i haven't hit a royal playing tdb but i have hit quite a few aces/k.

The odds of hitting a Royal on any given hand in TDB is exactly the same as any other game. However, TDB is more volatile than other games, so you typically cannot play as long on the same bankroll.

Because of the cards you are supposed to hold there are fewer opportunities to draw the Royal. The hit frequency is around 1 per 45,000 hands, where some other games are closer to 1 per 40,000.

Right, when the flush is 7 for 1, like in full pay TDB, the frequency of a Royal goes down because you'll always hold four to a flush over 3 to a royal in a 7 for 1 flush game. And you will also hold 3 to a flush vs. 2 to a Royal of the same suit.

In the short pay 9/6 and 9/5 versions, the Royal probability using optimal strategy is closer to 1 in 39k and much closer to most non-wild games.

I'm assuming 9/7 definitely wasn't available at WVRadar's casino. 9/7 TDB for quarters is hard to find outside of Nevada. VPFree2 has less than 10 casinos listed outside Nevada that has single line quarter 9/7 TDB. I've visited two of them (Isle of Capri Lula and Hollywood STL).

Even at 9/7, the variance/volatility of TDB makes me hesitant to play the game. I'd rather play a 10/7 DB or 10/6 DDB just because. Plus I don't know the strategy well enough to warrant playing it.

Any hand pay is nice but that much sweeter when it's your own. Keep on trying!

10/7 DB is the safer choice out of the three if you want to minimize losses over the long run if you are unlucky and not be able to hit as many royals or quad aces.

I am sure you've played VP a lot longer than most people but 10/7 DB is way more difficult to master than 9/7 TDB or 10/6 DDB since scenarios where you have 5 for 1 straight payouts are present.

I also agree handpays feel good when you are the one getting it, it might require people to bet out of their comfort zone to get it. Most people play 9/5 DDB for quarters.

There are a LOT of penalty card situations to attend to when playing 10/7 DB, no question. I've caught myself many times discarding penalty cards after I hit draw. It makes you a good student of the game though. No drinking, no deviation. Just good hardcore VP to hopefully get that coveted handpay.
