Good article. I'll see if Bob Dancer is behind the counter the next time I go to McDonald's.

Yeah, but the "true" pros don't just "grind" full pay deuces all day. But I would probably do it over a fast food job. Cashier in a grocery store (which I have done in the past), I probably pick that over FPDW for 8 hours a day...ugh.

And a "true pro" probably doesn't only play 25c single line ,like the author of the article used as his example.
I'm not sure how a article about a single line quarter player making $7.60 an hour playing a game that returns 100.76%, playing 800 hands an hour ,100% correct, is some new reality? It's math.

the new reality, as the article clearly states, is that 100% plus VP games are rare even in vegas. and, likley almost non existent elsewhere. the new reality, as many other articles state, is that other casino game odds have been reduced. and, the new reality is that this has all happened over a short time period, since the onset of the recession. the vegas guru has stated himself, that on play alone, he lost money in 2014. for some the math is hypothetical, the new reality is how it actually affects your wallet.

I might have heard something on a past Gambling With an Edge episode that there used to be FPDW in $5 denomination, some people never played it due to tax liability reasons.
The only good thing quarter FPDW is that you can avoid reporting it on your income tax since $1000 is the highest you can get. I heard rumors that places now lock the game on the slowest mode on purpose.

Players having a harder time finding 100% returning VP in and out of Vegas is nothing new, it's been going on for years, the onset of the recession was 7 + years ago. The "new reality" is quickly becoming old news.
From what I understand most pro's now aren't as concerned with just the return % of the machines, its the cash back/free play + promos/contests + the return of the games. And in some cases they will even play something less than the best, when the mailers and promos make it better than the higher returning games.
So a pro losing money on play alone isn't the only factor on how they did for the year.

the onset of the recession may have 7 years ago, but the casino 's reduction in players odds did not begin and end on the same date. it has been slowly progressing and continues to this date. nearly every week, one can read about some odds reduction taking place somewhere. the new reality continues. as i am not a VP pro, i have no idea what they are looking for or even what constItutes a PRO. but, like most everyone on this site , i am a pro on knowing what makes up earning a living. don't know about where you live, but my utility company will not accept a coupon for a free room as payment. earnings-expenses-taxes, pays the bills. most of these so called pros are a joke, they are either working/earning a living to feed their addiction, got money from someone else or they are busted in a short time period. on another forum, a POKER pro was listing the MAIN EVENT winners from the early 2000's that were busted. and, even the vegas guru earns a living selling stuff and appearance fees. i'll take my cues from steve wynn and his assertion that he was unaware of any long term gambler, being net positive from playing casino games.
