Political BS 101 (anything goes)

Post by DaBurglar »

http://news.yahoo.com/memphis-police-of ... 8.html#The above article is horrible......you cannot help but feel bad for the poor officer's family (they are the ones left to suffer.....the poor officer himself is mercifully no longer suffering, and afterall, he died freely doing the job he chose and loved, which is more than a lot of people can claim.)   My heart always breaks for the loved ones, especially children, of policeofficers and firemen who die in the line of duty helping others and yet leave behind and are no longer there to help the loved ones closest to them. This is yet one more example of why I refuse to buy in to the arguments of Gun enthusiasts that by arming everyone we make everyone safer!   This example shows how that reasoning is false......here you have a highly trained and competent (I assume) police officer with a functional, effective sidearm, cautiously approaching a suspect, and he STILL gets blown away!    His own gun did NOT save him at all!    But, if somehow we could make it far more difficult for the a-hole idiot who shot the officer to actually get his hands on the gun he used to kill the guy, tell me why that is something we at least could not (or should not)  TRY TO DO?!?!?!?If we can lock hundreds of thousands of people up for non violent drug offenses (and foot the resulting HUGE bill for doing so), why cant we target and go after a far more clear and present threat of guns in the hands of criminals and mentally sick (i.e. nuts jobs)??????    Will we ever completely remove the problem or threat?  probably not......but could we not reduce it and make it even a little smaller?   We wont know until we try......and we should TRY.Pray for this officer's family......

Perhaps if narcotics had a lobby like the NRA we could end the costly and ineffective "war" on drugs and devote our resources to something more productive for society.

Well, BIG Pharma has one of the most active and richest lobbies in washington ....perhaps now that Marijuana is fast becoming legal (or AT LEAST  decriminalized) we will soon see a well funded "BIG POT" lobby in washington!   Hell, Big Tobacco still,,,,,,STILL (in this day and age) has their lobby hard at work in D.C.  ....makes sense POT should have a lobby soon too!Seriously, anyone want to ruminate on just why Tobacco is even allowed to be sold in this day and age in the USA, in any shape or form?!??!!?    Think of the costs to society since 1950 due to the stinking leaf's effect.....add up all deaths and all the sickness and disease caused by tobacco.....why is it even allowed to exist?!?!?
