Re: Pot Shot Strategy Explained

Post by FloridaPhil »

Were back after a great trip to the Hollywood Hard Rock.  We played deuces wild $1s with the Cheap Strategy and had a great time.  No huge hits, but we had just enough max coin wild royals to keep us even for the trip.  Converting all your money into a stack of $5s is fun.  You have a fist full of money without actually spending a lot and it slows your play a little while keeping you more in touch with the game.  We set a $50 low stop limit on all wins and cashed a bunch of tickets.   I'm still not sure why, but this does seem to hold down your hourly cost significantly.  Playing Cheap Strategy at the $1 level is a good for me as it keeps me out of the high limit room.  When you're chasing a $1,000 quad deuce or a $4,000 royal, you don't need pot shots.  Good stuff...

J662,

I don't think I fully understand the method. Does it work like this example:

Using $20 (instead of $100) meaning 4 $5 bills will be used. An X means no winner on that hand. HP means High Pair:

Round #1: ($20 total)
$5 in: 3 of a Kind on first hand; $7.50 ticket out
$5 in: 3 of a Kind on first hand; $7.50 ticket out
$5 in: 3 of a Kind on first hand; $7.50 ticket out
$5 in: 3 of a Kind on first hand; $7.50 ticket out
Results: 4 tickets out worth $30
Next round: 4 $5 bills to play. Pocket $10

[convert tickets to cash]

Round #2: ($20 total)
$5 in: HP, HP, HP, HP; $5 ticket out
$5 in: X, X, HP, HP; $2.50 ticket out
$5 in: 3 of a Kind on first hand; $7.50 ticket out
$5 in: HP, HP, HP, HP; $5 ticket out
Results: 4 tickets out worth $20
Next round: 4 $5 bills to play. Pocket nothing

[convert tickets to cash]

Round #3: ($20 total)
$5 in: X, X, HP, HP; $2.50 ticket out
$5 in: X, X, HP, HP; $2.50 ticket out
$5 in: X, X, HP, HP; $2.50 ticket out
$5 in: X, X, HP, HP; $2.50 ticket out
Results: 4 tickets out worth $10
Next round: 2 $5 bills to play because Round #3 only produced $10 with 4 tickets. Pocket nothing

[convert tickets to cash]

Round #4: ($10 total)
$5 in: 3 of a Kind on first hand; $7.50 ticket out
$5 in: 3 of a Kind on first hand; $7.50 ticket out
Results: 2 tickets out worth $15
Next round: 2 $5 bills to play. Pocket $5

[convert tickets to cash]

Round #5: ($10 total)
$5 in: X, X, HP, X; $1.25 ticket out
$5 in: X, X, HP, HP; $2.50 ticket out
Results: 2 tickets out worth $3.75
Next round: 0 $5 bills to play because we only have $3.75 from round #4. Pocket $3.75 and stop.

[convert tickets to cash]

All Pocket Money totals: $18.75

[quote=Waiting4RF]I don't think I fully understand the method.[/quote]You are making this waaay too complicated.  Cashing all your money into 5s and setting you cash out low limit to $50 is all there is.  It has the affect of slowing your play which is an advantage when playing negative expectation games.  Playing video poker is like riding in a boat with a lot of ocean swells. Jacks or Better has little waves, Deuce Wild has bigger waves and DDB has 20 foot "Oh my God!" swells.  I think there are even some games with tsunamis, but I'm getting sea sick.   All you're doing when cashing out early is taking the tops off the wave before it sinks you...

Hi WaitingforRF,    I have no desire to hijack FloridaPhil's topic any further so will only say that, yes, the sequence you describe is exactly as I would have played it.  Should you wish to discuss further we should probably take this to a private conversation in email or messaging.
