w Cheap Strategy Deuces Wild you often hit a decent max coin hand
catching you back up and allowing you to play close to even much more
often. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------That's what I expected to happen on JOB too but, as you maintain, it just won't work. The quad cavalry has only come to the rescue once, and I had to triple my bet to three dollars to break even. I'm not repeating any more of these bust journeys. The next major hurdle for me is to commit to an hour of DW per visit, just to see what happens.

I tried the Cheap Strategy with Jacks or Better and DDB for quite a while and it didn't work for me.   I think it has a lot to do with the nature of quads. There is absolutely no predictability when they occur and no systematic way to make the switch to max coins.  Anyone who has played deuces wild for any period of time can tell this game runs in short runs both up and down . There is no way a new hand is affected in any way by the last hand, but these runs definitely do occur. The Cheap Strategy does not rely on these runs alone, but it does work much better when they occur.  Personally I think the Cheap Strategy works with deuces wild because of the one in 5,000 hands quad deuce jackpot.  Betting less money per hand while having a chance at a $1,000 quad deuce or $4,000 royal seems like  a good trade off to giving up a $1,000 max coin quarter royal every 40,000 hands.  One thing that I have not talked about much is Cheap Strategy hand strategy.  There is definitely a change in hand strategy when switching from single coin to max coins.  For example, in Airport Deuces at max coins you would keep a KA, KJ, & KQ.  At single coin you would throw those hands away.   I use VPW to train and these slight changes are not hard to memorize.  I don't worry about penalty situations that are worth less than 10 cents because they don't make a real difference with Cheap Strategy.

Sounds like an excellent plan. I have of course experienced similar runs w JOB, typically leading up to a quad. But even sans quad, it's concentrated winning hands. To learn that they exist on DW is very reassuring. As you have reiterated, that quad deuce jackpot is such an enticing carrot.

Think about this.   A Royal with deuces pays 125 coins on a good machine and comes at about the same frequency as a quad in Jacks or Better paying the same thing.  Now add the in the quad deuce jackpot which comes about one every 5,000 hands.  The royal flush payout is the same so that's a wash.  Deuces Wild has a little more variance than Jacks, but the Cheap Strategy keeps you from busting.  If the add in the tendency of deuces to run in streaks, you have a very entertaining game that you have to experience to appreciate.  Learning to play deuces is not hard, but it's a total mind shift at first.  Once you get used to it, I don't think you'll ever go back.

Right, cold feet about making the mental leap. It's going to take some work and effort. I had to stay in town. But I expect to labor next weekend.

Here's a tip that I used when I first switched to deuces wild.  Deuces is a game of straights.  They are the same as two pair in Jacks or Better as they are the most common DW hand and they double your money.  Look for them first, then back off and make your decision.  It's seems somewhat weird at first to take a deuce and two close cards for a straight flush draw but they pay well and are worth the shot.  Try to find a game that pays 4 coins for a four-of-a-kind and a full house.  If you have to give up 25 coins on the wild royal it's better than giving up a coin on a full house. Of course, the best game is 4-4-125 if you can find it.  It's available if you look hard enough.  Good Luck!

Great advice. The training mode here is heavily biased toward the straight flush, so that's the way to go with a deuce and the two close cards. They do drill that. There do seem to be a hell of a lot of Straight opportunities coming down the pike. It gets dizzying. But, I've always been ready to take the gift horse and not look it in the mouth. The turn off is that at the old place a full house was only three coins. That really ticked me off. I'll have to do some scouting at the new venue.
